New truck suggestions

I am going to buy a new truck in the next two to three months. After reading the post about the 07' trucks with a better engine/tranny I am faced with a hard decision. I have been waiting about a year to buy a truck but i don't want to buy one, but a lot of money into it only for a new truck to come out with better parts. If i did decide to buy now and then perhaps trade when the 07's come out what could i buy now then reuse on a new truck. As far as I know my options are limited, very limited. My main question is what would you guys do?

If it looks like the 07 will be a bit better as far as the auto goes, wait for it. You will lose your a......uhhhhh butt trading for an 06 and then again for an 07. Just my 2 cents, but I am a tight wad.

On the other hand, by the time the 07's are out, rumors are sure to start about the next, bigger, badder truck that's in the works. Kind of like computers in that regard, and trying to always have the newest thing out there would get really expensive.

Also, the 07 is likely to have an EGR system...

I guess if I were in your shoes (and didn't need a 5500 or anything) I think I wouldn't be afraid to go out and get an 06, and just plan on keeping it for a long time.

Have you considered doing a 1 or 2 year lease on one, and by the time your lease is up maybe some of the bugs will be worked out with the new ones and you can hear some of the pros and cons for the 07 and then make a decision to buy out your lease or trade for new one

Why don't you just buy mine (an 03) and I'll get an 06, then you can trade my old 03 for an 07 when they come out

Thanks guys. I was thinking the same thing. I would like to get a truck now and not wait a year. plus i don't want to wait for parts to come out, EGR, bugs, or anything like that. I would lease a truck, but then I won't be able to all of the fun stuff I plan on doing. I just don't want to think about all the money it is going to cost to get an ATS twin turbo setup and build my drivetrain to take it. Can't wait to get it. Oh and the reason I want a CTD is because I plan on driving this truck till it breaks, then fix it and drive it some more. Thanks for your input.

Pantera, if you intend to keep it a long time, I would try & find a leftover 05 now, incentives are great this late in model year http://www-5.dodge.com/incentives/In...er?Brand=Dodge , & dealers really deal!! not to metion all the reasons I metioned above

That sounds like the best idea so far.

What sort of truck attachments are you talking about buying now and possibly swapping to the truck later? I wouldn't worry about 2007 emissions as it should just be aftertreatment that currently won't last because of needing the ULSD.

If you wait for the better truck to come out next year, you will never buy a truck. Go ahead and get one now while the dealers are trying to get rid of the old ones for new ones and get a good deal. there isnt going to be much of a differance between a 06 and 07 really, just some shiny buttons.

the only attachment I can think of that will be transferable would be a lift, wheels/tires stereo. not much else.maybe not even the lift. The only reason I don't get an 05' is because I want a Mega Cab. I think i will stick with an 06' because if I do wait for the best I'll wait forever. Thanks guys.
