New Truck

Test drove two new dodges today, First one ,short bed 3500 4x4 6 SPEED. MY back still hurts, almost as bad as OLD 93. The next truck was a long bed 4x4 2500 auto. I liked it the best.I liked the power of the new trucks but the short bed is to short and the long bed is to long. The short bed is only 4'' shorter my 93 LB club cab, and the long bed is about 18'' longer than my truck. I like looking out of my old truck better.I can see the end of my hood. The new ones you don't know where the end of the hood is.Does the 4x2 ride any better? I have a bad back and I might have to switch to a 4x2 if they any better.I also here the new ones don't get the milege that the older trucks get. I hate to say it but I think I might go drive a chevy . If my back was not bad Iwould keep OLD 93 for another 10 or 12 years.

Part of the ride quality can be controlled by deflating the tires per the Tire info Guide that is ssupploed with the truck. Moer thatn likely the tires were at max psi when you test drove the trucks.
I like the way my QC 3500 SRW SB rides. If I have the tires pumped up for towing and haulling then the ride can get a little rough when it is empty. But when I know I'm not going to be hauling or pulling any loads I jus t air them down and it rides real nice.

The 2wd is leaps and bounds ahead of the 4x4 regarding ride quality. The chev is the couch of the lot.

Yep, the Chebby has that "girlie/wussy" front end underneath it; of course it will ride better....you know, with the halfshafts like on a front wheel drive car....I prefer the solid axle, not ride quality. Real four wheel drives don't have independent front suspension.

I have a 2500 short bed 4X4 and the ride is as good as most cars. I also have a bad back and I have found that the driver's seat has too much lumbar support and it puts pressure on my spine at just the wrong spot. I have to use a pad of some sort to flatten out the bulge in the seat back then I have no more back pain. The passenger's seat does not have the same bulge and I can ride there with no problems.

I had the same problem in my 97 Ford Ranger when I first bought it. I made a pad for the seat and the back pain went away.

Joe N.

I had the same problem with the lumbar. The solution is to increase the range of the lumbar support at the "deflated position". It took me 2 hrs to make this mod and it works great.

The manual lumbar consists of a plastic strap that goes across the seat back foam inside the seat. As you tighten the **** a threaded assy takes/adds slack to the strap pushing the seat back foam towards and away from you. I just increased the length of the strap by 1'' by cutting it in half and then joined the ends with another length of plastic riveted to the ends.
