New truck!
New truck!
Yesterday I picked up a late '04 2500 4x4 QC LWB 6spd with 91,xxx miles and love it already. I wanted to check in here since I've been on the 2nd gen pages for a while but haven't posted in this section before. The truck has been maintained and is clean, it got a new lift pump about 40,000 miles ago from the dealer but is it something I should replace with an aftermarket pump? I had a '98 24valve and went with an Airdog but it seems the third gen trucks don't have as big a problem. I've already got my eye on a one piece drive shaft, steering box stabilizer and the '08 steering upgrade for future purchases but I was wondering if there is anything else I should upgrade/replace before it causes me headaches? The truck runs and drives great and I just grin every time I get in it. Thanks in advance and I hope to be here for a long while.

First of all congrats on your new truck! The consensus here seems to be that the stock lift pump is fine unless you are doing serious upgrades, the one you want to avoid is the lift pump thats not mounted in the tank but the engine bay (which you shouldn't have). Might want to consider better fuel filtration as the stock filter will only filter to 5 micron with a baldwin or 7 micron with a fleetguard which is not sufficient for injector longevity according to a lot of reputable people with more knowledge than myself. I highly recomend a Glacier Diesel Power 2 micron kit as I am very happy with mine. There are a lot of people with ball joint issues on the front end even as early as 40-50k.
