new 3500 paint problems, what to expect
Less than 500 miles on a new 6.7 3500 black dually 4x4 and noticed swirls under the clear coat on the flares. I'm not to crazy about tring to paint match on a new truck. What should I expect the dealer and or Dodge to do about it, what is a reasonable expectation on my part? The swirls look like I forgot to buff after a wax job and it almost appears to be fiberglass showing through the clear coat.

Good luck i bought mine on rainy day, when the weather cleared a few weeks later i found a place on my dually fender that looked like it had been badly scratched and someone tried to fix it.I really did'nt worry about i had a warranty i would take it in when i had time.Long story short they said i did it and i could'nt prove otherwise.I thought they would repaint the fender anyway after all i had bought a 07 3500 cummins,an 07 1500 hemi and a 07 jeep liberty limited in a three month span.Boy was i wrong after much telling them what i thought about them and dodge they finally had there detail man buff it out for me. It looks better than it did but i know it won't stay that way for long it's already starting to show back through.Lesson learned always check a dodge before you leave the dealer and never buy without complete inspection. __________________________________________________ _______________ 07 ctd 3500 slt 5.9 dually black no mods
mooncon,
Mine is under the clear coat. If I had to guess, the fender had a shoty paint job then cleared right over it,should have been caught by quality control. I hope someone from Dodge montors this site and makes a trip to Mexico.

DC's quality control leaves little to be desired. I ordered mine so I never saw the truck before I went to pick it up. When I pulled into the dealership it was parked in front of the showroom with a car parked next to it on tha driver side. I did a walk around and all looked good except for a fifty cent piece sized dent in the rear bumper. I called that to their attention. They wanted me to bring it back in at a later time to have it repainted. I declined due to the fact that I live 165 miles away and really did not want a repainted bumper on my new truck. They agreed to remove one from a truck of the same color on the lot and install it on my truck. Unfortunately it was too late in the day and they could not do it until the next day. I picked up the truck the next morning. I stopped at my brother's house to show him my new truck and boy was I surprised. When the direct sun hit the driver bedside it revealed a 10" x 18" rectangular area that was a lighter color. It appeared that someone had tried to buff out this area and I decided I would just try to wax it out when the weather broke. This was in January when I got my truck. I called the salesperson and told her about the paint problem and told her to make sure it was on record. In the mean time I had an over the rail Rhino liner installed. When the weather broke in late March I tried to wax out the spot to no avail. It turns out it is under the clearcoat and was done at the factory. I called my dealer once again which is 165 miles away. They told me to get an estimate and I did so. The estimate included having the over the rail Rhino removed and reinstalled after repainting the upper bedside. The dealer stated DC would not pay for the Rhino part of the estimate. I called the Rhino installer and got a non-insurance price. The Rhino dealer told me he did not think he could make it match the original liner exactly. I decided to just live with the paint defect. Moral of the story, always do a detailed inspection up close and from a distance before taking delivery of your new truck. Had I noticed this I would have not accepted this truck.
