New 06 Dually Mileage Run

While reading the forum for the past 2 months, waiting on the new dually, I've been dying to know whether I would get one of the bad MPG beasts , one of the good ones , or something in between. So this is what I've found on the 1st 2 tanks:

Between 6000' and 7500' altitude 236 miles of mixed driving:

236 miles
15.8 gal
17.3 mpg indicated
14.9 mpg actual
+2.4 mpg Overhead error

Today I drove a highway triangle 80.2 mi at 65 MPH, 85.4 mi @ 70 mph, and 65 mi @ 75 mph. With my 2001 auto w/ 3:55 gears I would get 22 mpg on the same route w/ the same speeds. With new dually:

230.8 miles
12.729 gal
19.8 indicated
18.18 actual
+1.7 mpg Overhead error

Not as good as my auto 2001 w/ 3:55 but considering at the end of the run I have 523 miles on the clock, not too shabby I think this might be a good one I'll do this same test at 5000 miles increments and see how many miles it takes the engine to settle down and actually break in.

Man I looooove this truck

Only problem I've had so far is a rock that starred the windshield w/ 15 miles on the clock ... didn't even get the sucker home A dang Chebby dually going the other way got me. I hate Chebbys! One of the glass chip places fixed it so I can hardly tell where it was The wife said she was impressed because I didn't cuss, but said I looked like I was sick. What she doesn't know is you can't talk when your heart stops

Not bad for a fresh engine. From your numbers I take it you've got a 2wd and auto. 4x4 and manual would drop your numbers just a bit. What you need is a good thousand mile 10,000 lb pull. That would break the engine in sweetly

It's a 4x4 live in CO so it is a must here. I missed putting that in my signature but now corrected! I'm very pleased with that mileage on a tight engine! It should only get better from here.
