Nerve rattling reverse feature

I found out the unsettling way today, that if you have your drivers door open and put it in reverse, all H E double L breaks loose.

I have without a doubt, got to lose this clever little feature DC came up with. Anyone know how to disable it ?

Thanks,
Rick

You weren't wearing your seatbelt were you? I've heard some guys mention that they plug the middle seatbelt into the drivers side to disable it while backing up to their trailers.

I have had it happen once also. It is the most obnoxious alarm I have ever seen. I could deal with the little dash dings, but the horn honking is nuts...IMO.

Nope, no seat belt. Just jumped in to back up a couple of inches to get the ball under the hitch and thought I set off a national security alert when I dropped it in reverse. This is going to be a PITA to keep switching seat belt latches if it cannot be dissabled somehow.

Could put a master kill switch on the horn. Also install a indicator lamp so you will remember to turn the horn back on before driving off.

WOW, nothing like having our trucks think for us. Wonder why DC doesn't tell the consumer all these neat little things they added before we buy. I'm still wanting to get a new one, but I figure by the time I do, I'll be to busy trying to disable all those things instead of bombing it.

I thought this was an "06" option, I back my 05 up all the time without a seatbelt on and the door open and havent had this happen yet. I am still a little nervouse about what someone said about not locking in park! This would not be good backing a 8000lb boat downt the ramp, I am in the habit of using the P brake so hopefully I wont end up on America's funniest home video!

Exactly the reason. People were not putting the trucks in park properly and setting the park brake. They'd come out to a runaway truck. DC fixed that!!!!

If having the seatbelt fastened actually inhibits the warning horn then all you'll have to do is insert a jumper wire in the seatbelt wire/connector under the driver's seat. (I used that little trick to disable the seatbelt chime before I learned there is a procedure in the owner's manual for disabling it.) This trick will work assuming the 06 seat belt wiring is the same as the 04.5 i.e. the seatbelt switch is a normally closed switch with the seatbelt fastened.
