Nerf Bar review
Nerf Bar review
I thought I'd provide my experience in case someone is looking for the info.
I purchased 4" chrome Nerf Bars for a 2006 Dodge 3500 MegaCab from TruckChamp (Part #430150) at $349 (before coupon discount) with free shipping.
TruckChamp has a pretty straightforward, simple online order process. Prior to placing your order, confirm with online assistance your item is in stock. Google for coupon codes... this saved me 10%!
I was not overly impressed with the "Customer Review" at the end of the order process. Basically, they tell you you can get a store credit of some amount for completing the BizRate questionaire. Well, you complete the questions then they offer you 4 magazine subscriptions with "auto renewal" and a chance to enter a drawing for the store credit. It wasn't clear to me if they planned to share my credit card information for the "auto renewal"... so I didn't continue. I'd rather make the renewal decision myself.
My order shipped next day (Friday) and arrived on schedule the following Tuesday via FedEx. Email updates and FedEx tracking information was provided. All parts were present and accounted for with no damage to the packaging.
I did find a very small dent in one of the tubes... I didn't notice it until after it was installed. It is not a major dent, but in a visible place. It was very small and didn't impact the looks enough to warrant returning.
The instructions could use some additional details... particularly around part identification and the installation of the middle support bracket. The old lady in the installation video definitely had more experience than I did. It took me about 1.5-2 hours to install both sides. I had assistance from my two sons. If you are installing on a long cab, you will probably need some assistance holding the bars in place while making the connections. They're not heavy and could be done by anyone... wife, child, buddy, stranger, etc.
The middle support didn't seem to line up completely vertical, but before tightening everything down final adjustments made it look very close.
The bars support me fine (250 lbs). The installed bars have some "spring" in them. I think this is due to the cab mount bushings used for the support mounts... I don't think it's the bars flexing.
There were a lot of washers left over; however, after re-reading the instructions I do not think anything was missed.
Overall I am very pleased with the product. The bars are not overly difficult to install. I thought the customer support, order fulfillment, and shipping were very good.
I would order from TruckChamp again.
Thanks,
John.
