National Backorder
National Backorder
I have been waiting for a warranty replacement of the retrofit in-tank lift pump for over two weeks, while my truck sits at the dealership. The part is on "national backorder" without e.t.a. I am wondering what my options are to get my truck running, or if anybody else has experience with a similar situation. The most frustrating part is I have found the kit at a dealership in Idaho, but they won't sell to other dealerships because of the markup profit by selling to customers
Are you paying the bill or is it warranty? I ask because either way it should be a priority to your dealer. They can upgrade their order two more levels. First is Special Handling. That will immediately search any available stock in any PDC nationwide. It will also send notice to any dealers showing it and give them the option to sell it back to Chrysler and in turn send it to your dealer. Or there is Vehicle Off Road, VOR for short, that will increase the status above any Special Handling order and also allow Chrysler to intervene by other manners to get the dealers holding them to let them go. In some cases they will get Regional Parts reps to get involved as well. Depending on how much yelling has been done.
Lastly, there is the 1-800 number on the last page of the owner's manual. That is THE hotline to get to Chrysler. It creates a case and lets Chrysler find out why there is a complaint to begin with. Believe me, it's attention that no dealer wants. If they have been sitting on their thumbs and not pressing this matter then it will make them act. If they have done their part and have refusals from more than a handful of dealers that have it, then they will make it happen. Since it has been two weeks already, I'd use this option.
Pending it being paid out of your pocket, I'd look into the new Airdog systems. Should be just a little more than what the dealer is charging for the stock stuff, and you'll be getting a much better system. Don't regard it as high performance only and not necessary. It works fine on stock trucks as well. They sell them here on DTR. Discounts to members also. (plug)

The work is all covered on the 7/100 extended warranty I had transferred into my name two months ago when I bought the truck. Thank you for the advice and the phone #, I'll be in somebody's ear tomorrow as the dealership has been absolutely helpless.
The only hesitation I have in putting an aftermarket airdog system on my truck is how it will effect the warranty for the next two years. I would hate for my injection pump to go out in a year, and have the dealerships blame it on a non-factory fuel pump.

I can tell you from experience that you may have issues with the aftermarket fuel pump setups...
My dealer voided my warranty on the entire fuel system because of my FASS... I'd assume that if anything even more major had ever happened they would have tried to blame it on the FASS as well.
Proceed with caution on the aftermarket fuel pump system if warranty is a concern....

i can also tell you that national back order is crap, it will be 2 to 3 months.
i waited 4 months for a rear flange off the rear end, and i just bought a used truck that the dealer fried the fcm doing the recalls, and thats on national back order too.i brough a used one with me to fix it so i could drive the thing home.good luck
they talk about people being out of work.

As for the dealer stuff... talk to them. Some dealers will work with you, some won't.
IIRC it was recall C44. BOL.

I was talking more about installing the aftermarket fuel pump. Some dealers will work with you on stuff like this, just be upfront with them.
