At my wit's end with this steering!

Hey guys, I know, it's another thread on the forum about steering but I have searched and found that everyone's solution has been stuff I have already done. I have the upgraded steering, the borgeson steering box and shaft, new control arm bushings, an adjustable track bar and carli ball joints; and the steering wheel still jerks all over the place everytime I hit a bump in the road. ***?! I'm getting ready to drive this thing into a lake. If someone who has had a similar experience can shed some light I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the steering box brace with the outboard bearing for the sector shaft? I just put one on my truck and it made a world of difference.

Have you replaced your steering damper yet? On my old jeeps, I needed to replaced them every two years. They are nothing more then a shock absorber that wears out. I would replace the steering damper with a "BLISTEIN" Unit, if you have not done so recently. Especially if you are running oversize tires on your truck.

I do have the box stabilizer, but I have not installed it. The place I ordered all the parts from doesn't seem to think that with all the new components under there I should need the box stabilizer, and I agree. I kinda want to get to the bottom of this issue first. I do have the Carli low mount stabilizer as well. Thank you for the responses, though, and keep the ideas coming!

My truck also has all new steering parts. New drag link and tie rod a few weeks ago. It also got a new steering box at 7K miles. I don't even have 30K miles on the truck. The steering box brace still made a difference. The best $119 I've spent on it so far.

Custom-Diesel had it on sale earlier in the week for $119. It's a quality piece. I highly recommend it. Before I put it on the truck I had to make constant corrections with the steering wheel when driving on the freeway. Now I barely move the wheel at all. It made a huge difference.

Easy stuff first... Are you running oversized tires? if so, what brand, air pressure, load rating? Cheaper made and/or D load range tires don't fare well on the front end of diesel pickups due to the extra weight of the Cummins.

If you have the steering stabilizer, INSTALL IT... its been the single best part I have ever put on my truck!...
Does the truck have a lift/leveling kit? What are the alignment settings that the truck is being set to? Often rucks that are times, the factory settings aren't best for trucks that have lifts..
Has the truck ever been wrecked in the front end? If so, was there frame damage or frame work done? A damaged frame or front end components can casue the truck to never act right.
How many are on the truck? Have the disposable hub bearings been checked for excessive play???

Ok, first off I'm sorry, I just switched from another forum and I forgot I didn't have a sig for everyone to see. It is a 2006 2500 with 66000 on the dial and it has a 4" superlift on it. There was only one owner and no accidents according to the carfax report I got when I bought it. The hub bearings are fine, I know this because when the tech installed my ball joints and 08+ steering he had to replace the hub and bearing assembly on one side and the other was good. I have upgraded the steering in stages. First was the ball joints, 08+ steering and carli low mount. After that I put a set of Nitto Trail Grappler 35x12.50R18s on set to 55 psi front and rear. The truck drove a little better but not 100% so I installed the Borgeson steering box and shaft. That is when the steering wheel jerk started when I go over bumps, so i took it to have an adjustable track bar installed and an alignment. It still has the jerk issue. To my knowledge he did alignment according to factory standards.

Maybe a long shot but can you remove the Borgeson steering box and shaft and go back to stock to see if it gets better?

who ever said he don't need to install the steering brace because he has "new" parts has their heads in the clouds. Install the brace, also get a dual steering stabilizer.

your running larger tires. its gonna happen. did on my megacab but the dual stab helped and the brace tightened things up and ELIMINATED sector shaft flex. 9" of lift and ran 40's for over a year and then went back down to 37's for the other 3 years I owned it. It always did have a little bump steer.

I don't have the factory box anymore, so i can't put it on. I know it's not that anyway because the company who I bought it from sent me another one after the issue came up and they thought maybe they sent me a bad one. As far as the steering box stabilizer goes I will give it a shot. Does anyone know what the new alignment specs should be for a lifted truck? I know I've read something about the caster being maxed out but is that all the way positive or all the way negative?

The great thing about the steering box stabilizer is, not only will it correct some existing problems, but it will prevent future problems from happening. You won't regret putting it on. The main reason I installed mine was to prevent early failure of my steering box.
