My CTD and Cold weather, what do I need to do..

Obviously living in Texas, I do not get cold weather (has not been below freezing yet where I live) Anyways, my CTD and I are making a road trip to Connecticut this weekend, and has low of 15*. My truck will NOT shut off once it leaves TX, making a run, dropping off a car, and coming home. Anyhting I need to do about fuel freezing, or is up north still going to have "winter fuel"???

Anything else I need to be concerned with? Figure not, but thought, heck , why NOT ask?

I don't think you'll have any problems, but I'd recommend some fuel additive like Power Service.

OK, thanks.

Another question......What is the cost of Diesel up in them parts? Reason for asking is I also have a All Time 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee (see sig) rated at hauling up to 6500 LBS, figure I will be @ 4500 LBS. Cost of Diesel down here is between $2.35-$2.45 a gallon, and 87 Octane is @ $1.90 a gallon.

I figure the Jeep will get @ 8-10 MPG hauling @ 3400 miles round trip which is 425 gallons of fuel @ $1.90 = $807

The CTD will get @ 15 MPG @ $2.45 a gallon x 3400 miles = $555

BUT, if Diesel is crazy insane in cost, like $3.00 a gallon or more.......is $1133 in fuel.

See what I am saying???????

Hate to to take the Jeep, but if Diesel fuel is very expensive up there, then I am going to take the Jeep.

So, what is the cost of Diesel up North????

Conneticut is averaging $2.50 to $2.60 for diesel $2.20 for unleaded. I'd take the truck. That's what it's built for. Just run a little anti gel and you'll be fine. Since you won't be shutting it down. Even still, mine will start at -5* without any additives or being plugged in. Wouldn't recommend that though.

OK, thanks! Well, the ONLY reason I was thinking of taking the Jeep was $$$$$$$$$. And that is why I wanted to know the cost of Diesel fuel, because like I said, if Diesel was nuts $$$$$$$$ I could save money taking the Jeep.

AS the cost of Diesel being what it is (as you say) taking the Diesel is a no brainer.

3400 miles @ 15 MPG @ $2.60 a gallon = $589 for the CTD
3400 miles @ 8 MPG @ $2.20 a gallon = $935 for the Jeep

OK, thanks for answering my questions. Leaving tonight for Connecticut in the CTD.

Did a weather check, looks like no snow for this weekend up there either.....cold weather yes....snow, no

Somehow your math is off.

To go from $555 to $1133 you'd have to jump from $2.45/gal to just under $5.00/gal.

Take the truck!

Before you leave, check http://www.flyingj.com and http://www.pilottravelcenters.com and plan your fueling up accordingly. I check the Flying J site for the price in Carlisle, PA often, and it's usually ~$0.15 cheaper than around here. Maybe you can top off before hitting NY or CT and hitting the same station on the way home.

OK, left Thursday night from Pearland (Houston, TX)@ 7:00 PM got back @ 7:30 tonight, traveled to Norwich, CT and took the CTD. Cost of fuel for the trip was $517. I averaged a lttle over 16 MPG @ 70 MPH on the way up there (trailer and car weighed close to 5K LBS) and coming home averaged ALMOST 18MPG at the same speed, minus the car, but with the trailer. The truck did not shut off during that time either, not one time.

I ran BDPP back to stock, and ran my TST on Economy 3/1, 12*.

What states did you end up getting your fuel?

Oh, Welcome to New England and have a safe trip home.

Ok guys, just wanted to say hey,and Connecticut is very beautiful except not real hip on the "old school' vibe of the state. However, very pretty.
