Mopar Sattelite and Navigation Radios

Does anyone have the Dodge Navigation radio (RB1) with the built-in video screen? ??? I like to know how you like it and if it also plays DVD movies.
Also, how about the Sirius add-on kit for the factory stock radios? This is the Dodge specific add-on that comes with the antenna and the radio. Is it easy to install? Where does the antenna install?
If you have either one of these options I'd appreciate your feedback
Thanks

Re:Mopar Sattelite and Navigation Radios

I have the nav radio.I like it .looks like it belongs on the truck.not like an add on.you can't play dvds because its against the law for the driver to watch while driving.I also have sirus kit did not put it on yet.weather sucks here in the north east.with the dodge kit they want you to drill a hole in the roof, thats the only part that looks hard.I don't like drilling holes in my truck.and if you want to hear cds while nav. is on you need a cd changer.I got that too.Mike

Re:Mopar Sattelite and Navigation Radios

Hi taskE42,
Did you install the Nav radio yourself? If so, was it a direct replacement of stock radio? I know the driver can't watch a movie while driving, but most of the in-dash DVD players just disable the DVD-movie function while the engine is on or vehicle is moving. [undecided] I don't know about this one. I wonder if it could be used as a DVD player with an overhead monitor for the backseat. : Have you tried a DVD movie in it to see if it reads the disc? The one thing I don't understand about DC is why they don't give more info on the specification of anything. They jsut show a small picture and just briefly say what it's supposed to be. ???
Thanks

A word of advice if you are using the stock antenna with the sirius kit,Yes you drill a 3/4" hole in the roof,it is not that hard but,MAKE SURE YOU DROP THE HEADLINER DOWN!The instructions say to slide a piece of cardboard under it, but they don't tell you that glued to the top of the headliner right where you drill the hole is the wires for the dome lite and third brake light. It sits against the roof panel so there is no room for error! The liner is easy to drop and the time spent is worth not hitting the wires.Took me from start to finish 2hrs for the install on the kit.Pretty straight foward except for the lack of info in the instructions!

PS,it mounts about 6" from the back of the cab in the center of the roof.

The Sirius antenna is placed on the roof about one foot ahead of the centre mounted brakelight.

It is routed from dash, up A pillar, above doors and up to antenna.

Took some time, but relatively straight forward. Had to remove cover over side air bags???? oops and pry headliner down to route cables. And then the big one, drill hole in your brand new truck. I did it, and no leaks.

Good Luck

I had previously seen that site and the picture on the Grand Cherokee but this all they had to say on antenna location.

Where does the antenna mount and how large is it?
The antenna is very small and mounts inside the dashboard. On the Grand Cherokee it is installed on a ledge behind the instrument cluster and is totally hidden. The antenna plugs into a special connector on the back of the RB1.

What I am asking is specifically where does it say to mount the Ram gps antenna or do you just find a place and tuck it.
thanks

Mounting the GPS antenna is simple. When you have the radio out, stick your hand into the top left corner of the opening, you will feel the defroster duct. You just peel the backing off the tape and stick the antenna on the top of the plastic duct. There is not much room but it is enough. That is where the Dodge instruction sheet shows to mount the antenna. I put mine in last weekend; I like it better than the Delorme mapping software on my laptop.

Thank you That is exactly what I was looking for. And yes I do not like the delorme /laptop deal. It tells me to go to drive .8 mile to get to my house when I am sitting in my driveway. I've gotten more lost using it that than guessing. That and I hate having clutter. I am not interested in any bolt on dash screens etc.

Update, I really like the rb1 the voice commands are really nice to have.

Problem though is that I want to put in the mopar 6 disc changer and the one I got is supposed to plug into the back of the radio but there is already a plug there I think from my mopar sirius sattllite radio?

If you've got the sat radio, there should be a splitter box somewhere that the changer plugs into. They can both use the same plug.

Great, I will tear it apart and see where the "splitter "plug is at.
