Mileage while towing

I just got back from about a 400 mile round trip. I was towing 4 horses in a steel bumper pull trailer, along with a truckbed full of gear, and 3 passengers. No problems going 80mph plus uphill or down. Althought my mileage was 11 ish on the way and 12.8 on the way back (both hand calculated). No real complaints just wondering if anyone else has had the same figures.

Did a total trip to San Fran and back 2837.2 miles. Used 204.4 gallons of go juice. Total for trip was 13.88 mpg. Pulling a 25 foot 7500 lb trailer on interstate 5, route 101 and 199. I highly recommend you get some guages with the edge. I managed to push mine (Stock) to 1300 F with boost at 26, tranny went to 195. Smoked a ford 6.0 coming out of Astoria Wash. heading up grades. He kept trying and my wife gave up telling me to stop. On this whole trip I saw very few Dodges except for the 610 cummins that blew by me at grants pass. Well he had the edge attitude on the dash. Anyway back to your question the best I did was on the flat at 60-65 mph for 14.5 mpg. Worst was 11.8 at 70-80 mph. Yes all these are hand calculated and filled to the top even in Oregon. Wife sweet talked the young fellows and they admitted that you can pump your own diesel lawfully.

towing milage

Went to Panama City, FL from Atlanta and back 1051 miles towing a 10,000 lb 5th wheel and got 13.1 hand calc. filled to the neck each time. used 80.2 gal of fuel. I drive between 60-65. Great trip except that I blew 3 Carlisle tires on the trailer. That's 4 in a month. Carlisle will be getting a letter.
Keep grinnin,

Towing mileage

I just got back from a camping trip towing my 13,800lb 38ft 5th wheel to Huntington lake, Ca.. Going up the I-5 n/b over the grapevine doing 70+mph.Got about 14.5 mpg going up and about 12.8 coming back due to the holiday traffic s/b over the grapevine at about 25mph. I have been really impressed with my 05 Dodge SLT4x4. I added a Dr. Performance stage 2 and a Magnum force stage 2. No issues what so ever......

Towed my 7500# travel trailer 175 miles one way this weekend, had a head wind the whole way, set cruse at 60, got almost 11mpg. On the retuen trip no head wind same speed got 13.86. Diesel here Hagerstown, Md. was 2.99, fuel at Natural bridge Va. was 2.99. Refueled at the flying J, Md./Va. line paid 2.69. Also I just turned over 1,000 miles.

My best has been going from just North of San Diego to Long Beach, about 80 miles of flat freeway empty with the cruise at 65mph, 18.3 mpg. Average city/highway commute is 16 mpg, and my 2000 mile average to Oregon and back with a GVW of 21,000 lbs towing at speeds even or better than traffic yeilded right at 10 mpg.

I have been getting 10.5 towing my 10,000 lb. travel trailer. I just put the modified camshaft sensor on and changed to Amsoil. I do not have any trips planed anytime soon so I will not know if I helped the mileage for a while.

I did a big trip back in June from Denver to Jasper and back.
Up thru Glacier National Park, and then Banff and up to Jasper
with 4 adults and towing our 5er which weights approx 10,500 lbs loaded.
Best tank was 13.2, worse tank was 10.4...we averaged 12.4mpg
for the entire 3800 miles...this was with the Edge EZ on level 1 too.
The truck ran great and we had a great adventure.

I've got a little less than 43,000 miles on my truck now. The mpg has been getting better. In the flat lands in Florida I get pretty good mileage towing at 55-60, the computer shows 14-16mpg, towing my personal 37' triple slide 5'er. I transport alot of RV's out to the west coast on the side for a carrier out of Elkhart. It seems to average around 12-13 for the whole trip. I'm sure I could do better, but the wide open spaces on the down-hill slide is just to hard to resist. I use the 6spd manual w/3.73 rear gear, which keeps the rpms a little lower.

Milage

My biggest problem Is I drive too fast, 40 ft enclosed united trailer usally go from minnesota to Montana. I set the criuse at 75 mph so I get 10-11 best. If I drive 65 it will go up to 12.5-13. 04.5 dually 4.10, edge attitude cool duals.

10 to 13 towing 5r. It is a tall one, with lots of wind drag, so any head wind makes a big difference. Weight does not make the difference, it be the wind resistance Scotty.
