Lights going dim???

Lights going dim???

Just came home and when I was coming down My road my lights were going dim then back to normal. Anyone have this happen ?? 06 CTD Mega.

Do a search on grid heaters. These cause dimming since they draw a ton of juice. Most likely not a problem.

How long had you been driving before you noticed the lights dim? If you had been driving a while, which is implied in your post then it isn't the grid heaters or if it was the grid heaters and the engine was warm then that's a problem too.

Not sure if you can do this on an 06 but turn the ignition on/off/on/off/on and see if any codes show up in the odometer window.

I had only taken a short drive less than a mile. The truck was not warm.

Grid heaters cycling on & off, totally normal. Until you hit about 23 mph they will turn on & off. Helps keep the "cold engine smoke" down. If it's below 40 F plug your truck in.

Are you saying it's based solely on speed, or is that assuming a cold engine also.
