Light switch doesnt turn off lights first try..

Ok, i have had this problem in 3 of my dodge vehicles.

I had 2 Dodge durango's, a 99, then an 01 and now my 04.5 cummings

each had this problem, if you are driving for a while with the lights on and you go to turn the light dial to the off position the lights will stay on!

Now I figured out how to make it Stop doing this... but its retarded since its annoying.

You have to turn the dial very slowly towards your parking lights, then turn it from parking lights to the off position.

If you dont it gets stuck with your lights on full blast and they dont turn off....

Is this a feature? Why have all my dodge vehicles done this

Its not a big problem (obviously) but its annoying since its obviously night time, you jump out of your truck ready to jump in bed for some sleep and you look back and have to crawl back into your truck to turn off the lights

thanks for any help on this.

My truck headlights stay on for about a minute if I shut the engine off before I turn off the lights. If I turn the lights off before I shut the engine down, they go off immediatelly. It sounds like your lights stay on when you are driving and turn them off.

Mine too. If you're turning the key off before turning off the headlights, the time delay feature takes over to allow you to exit the truck and get safely into the house before the truck turns the lights off.

OK, you don't say if this is when you shutdown the engine or while drivingdown the road

I will ASSUME you are talking about when you go to get out of the truck you turn off the lights at the switch and then shut the truck off. If this is true then yes the light will stay on for about 1 minute. This is the Lamp Delay feature. It's a safety feature that is rather nice IMO.
You would know this if you would read the owners manual
