Lift Kits and Tires
Lift Kits and Tires
If I do order a new 3500, someday I would like to be able to put 37" tires on it. What size lift would likely be needed that at a minimum? I'm not seeing any lift kits out there yet for the HDs, are they just not advertised or still in the R&D stages?
Re:Lift Kits and Tires
Pro comp and skyjacker are still developing a 3' and a 5' inch suspension lift for the 2003 2500, and 3500. I spoke with both companies and pro comp will release theres in june and skyjackers in august. To clear 37's you will probably need a 5' inch suspension lift and maybe a two inch body lift.
Re:Lift Kits and Tires
Thanks for the info on the lift companies. It sounds like people are clearing 35" tires at stock height so having to go 7" to clear 37" tires seems too high. Wouldn't a 3 or 4 inch suspension lift clear 37's?

Does anyone know if Bushwacker intends to make cut-out flares for the new HDs? I know they didn't for the older Dodges so probably not.

Re:Lift Kits and Tires
I did not know 35's would fit with the stock suspension. If thats the case then I would go with a three inch lift to clear the 37's, it would look a lot better and would give you a little more room for those nasty roads, corn fields, or trails that you dont think you'll ever go down ;D. I just sold my 01 1500 with a five inch lift and 35's :'(. I was thinking about putting 37's on her but I'm glad I didn't because I don't think I'd have any wheel wells left. For my 03 2500 I was thinking about getting a five inch lift and running 35's like I did with my 01 1500, but if you guy's are running 35's stock, I'm going with the three inch lift and running 37's. Let me know what you do.
Re:Lift Kits and Tires
I see the recommended min. rim width for the Goodyear MTRs in 37x12.5x17 is 8.5", 8" is close enough I'm sure. I'm running these tires now (in 285/75R16 size) on my '96 and really like them.

Anyone have some pics of a HD with 37" or even 35" tires (any style)?

When you say 37" will rub occasionaly, what are they hitting? I'd probably like to go with a 5" susp. lift for 37" tires for no rubbing. How much would that typically raise the rear, 3"?

What would be the equivalent rear end ratio if I was using stock height tires vs. a 35" or 37" tire? I'd be starting with a 4.10 rear.

Cool, thanks for doing the math, I did it once but wanted someone to double check. Looks like I definately want to go with the 4.10s if I'm going to at least use a 35" tire eventually.

Re:Lift Kits and Tires
MTR 37's and 3" front lift, there's about 1/2 clearance from the rear of the front fender at it's closest point when turned. My friend did this to his truck, and it looks like it would rub with any sort of road activity, but he's just going to "pound in" his fenders a little bit to compensate.
I'd say 5" on the front would be perfect.
In retro, I would have gone with the 4.10's on mine. The truck on the lot apparently had aftermarket tires on it. i thought they were stock and I was like, "ya, I can live with those". When mine came in with the bone stock tires, I was disappointed. After one week of research, it had BFG's and a 2" leveling kit on it ;D I just couldn't stand it.
It still blows my mind when pulling up hills and what not. I don't pull anything extremely heavy yet, so it really hasn't become an issue.
Oh well, I'm sure our friends at EZ will be able to compensate for my little oversight ;D ;D
