Lie-O-Meter

Is there a way to recalibrate the Lie O meter so it is actually accurate? Or at least consistently inaccurate so it can be used with a known off set.

Thanks

Nope, It's just a nice conversation piece. Some people have claimed that theirs is accurate, but I've never been close on mine doing hand calculations.

pretty much what Ive figured, I thought maybe if it could be improved easily it would be fun but I guess its far to limited to be made accurate, or even consistent

thanks!

The way I like to use the overhead is an efficiency trend gauge. The display with go up or down based on condition, so, although the numbers are off from actual, I can still drive for efficiency (the numbers will go up or down). This is especially useful on long trips where I can set the cruise and see how high I can get the number to climb and still tolerate how slow I'm driving

For my daily commute, the numbers stay pretty stable. If it drops too much from norm I know I'm driving too much like like a bat out of Hades or basically "pay attention, something is off with this tank".

The compass and temp still works (knock on wood). As for accuracy I really don't know....

I must be very lucky. My Lie-o-meter is pretty accurate. For those that are not so fortunate. It is very important that you calibrate your speedometer with a gps. If your speedometer is wrong, so will the overhead numbers. The adjustment is done by changing the divisor in the ECM. Course adjustment can be made by simply using the displayed speed in both the gps and speedometer, but for real accuracy use the distance traveled when taking a trip. You will have to do this several times to get it right. This should be re-checked every time you change tires. The divisor is supposed to be axle revolutions per mile, but using chalk on the pavement and measuring the tire rolling distance and some math is only a start point.

My speedo indicated 2mph higher than actual with the stock tires. Going to 285/70/17's it's spot on.

well i justgot home froma lengthy road trip, first thing I did was an Odometer check against mile markers over 20 miles and came up with a 3% error, with that factored in to the hand calcs, the Lie O Meter is off between 2 and 4.5 MPG. It doesnt seem to matter if its a short tank or near empty when I fill it nor does it seem to matter when the LOM was reset, its as likely to have a larger error after 1000 miles as after 300.

So, the number is apparently irrelevant, what does seem to matter is that when the LOM is indicating good mileage, Im getting good mileage (relatively) and when its indicating poor Im getting awful. for now I am assuming 3 mpg less than the LOM indicates, but, more importantly I am trying to drive to maximize the indicated mileage...

Thanks for the input yall

Mine is out by about 2MPG----Every weekend i drive the same route up to the cottage(272miles round trip),home from work, grab the MRS and the Bloodhound pup, fill up by the house---off to the lake and return home Sunday night and refill again before my way into work Monday. My 07 DRW 5.9(106,000+miles) in my sig gives me a solid 20-21MPG(Imperial)if i keep it at 65-67MPH,go above 70MPH and i drop to about 19MPG or less.Last weekend it was just me and the pup heading up so i took my sweat time and drafted a semi on the way up and a motorhome on the back.We basically drove the entire trip at around 100KMP or 62 MPH,1650RPM-----hand calculated at fill up was 23.5 MPG and it only added another 15-20 minutes to my commute. Not bad for DRW with 33.5 inch BFG KM 2's.My two cents---cheersDW.

Wow, that is good dweiler! I just did 300 m yesterday, 200 at 60-65 and 100 at 70-75, LOM varied from 20 to about 21.7, i havent filled up but experience tells me that will calculate to about 17, + or - .5mpg (US). Leaving the LOM unreset and allowing it to integrate over a couple thousand miles hasnt narrowed the difference. It is, at best, a qualative indicator only.

Thanks

Does anyone else... really anyone... see the irony of a thread entitled "lie-o-meter" started by username "trust"??
