the other day my lamp out light came on for a few seconds then went out with one chime, now today it is chiming with no light most of the time, like 6 chimes in a row, and the light will come on and off at any given time, only staying on a second at a time. COuld it be a bulb getting ready to go, or a loose connection?

The same thing happened to me a few months ago. Mine was the third brake light. The prongs that hold the bulb in place were loose. I took the bulb out and sqeezed the prongs together. Then I put the bulb back in place. Now the conection is really tight. That seemed to fix it. Since then I have not any more problems.

 

rear bulbs know to cause this. mine were starting to melt(plastic) allowing bad connection. I bought aftermarket and they were glass no problems since. good luck

 

Grease on the sockets helps also

 

Do a search for "lamp out" and you'll get more than you want to read.

The lamp out indicator doesn't check the Center High Mount Stop Light or "third brake light".
