Knocking in front end

I have been having some knocking occuring in the front end when I drive over rough patches on road. It seems like the steering box shaft and steering arm have some ply, but changed the ball joint at steering arm and sway bar links. It is more of a nuisance than anything.
Also, is there a way to disable the automatic door locks when I put truck in drive. Thanks for any info.

reaves11... I think I have the same thing. Is it just like a soft clunk or sort of rattle, that you can feel in the steering wheel and sometimes in the brake pedal? I just had a ton of work done on my front end - tie rod ends, ball joints, bearings (at 62,000km...). Everything seemed good after that, then I did a 5,500 km round trip Oklahoma and now this. I took it back to my mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong. I trust my mechanic, but it sure is irritating. He just said if it gets worse, come back in and maybe the problem will reveal itself. Maybe this most recent steering linkage recall will fix it up - I see my truck is under the recall so I guess I need to visit the dealer. I HATE dealers - I've never had a good experience at one.

I had a problem with a "popping" in my front end. It turned out to be play in the bolts that hold on the track bar. You can replace the bolts with some from the Lazarsmith "ultimate track bar hardware" and it should cure it. http://lazarsmith.com/SSSSS.html

I had also replaced my track bar bushings with his zero deflection off-set bushings. But I think the UTBH did more than anything to cure the "popping". My popping was usually in slow moving situations and turning, say backing out of the driveway. Hope that helps.

what about your u-joints?
and the automatic door locking feature should be able to fix it with a bullydog or look in your owners manual and there should be something in there about disabling automatic door locking.
i just took the bullydog out of my dad's duramax and plugged it in and changed all my settings without actually installing it if i remember right.

Have you checked the lower and upper ball joints for play?

Noise identified!

Um...I saw this once before on a thread and it is what affects my truck as well. On rough patches I get this occasional clunk that I can feel and hear but it is sporadic in nature. The cause?

The fluid tank on the side of the motor well is not well bolted in and during certain body roll conditions it moves and then bumps the side of the vehicle when it returns. Sounds stupid, but that was exactly what mine was doing and it is in fact the fluid reservoir.

Hope that helps,

Ken

Did you check the u joints on the front axle?I had a clunk on de-celeration and it didn't "show" itself until it was almost totally gone.
