looks like somhow it the fobs might have lost programming. I had picked up a second one at the dealership, and when I tried to program it. I accidentally un-programmed the old one, and programmed the new one...........not got any idea how I did it, but still think that is something to be concerned about. I am inly using it until I get my new remote start/security system.

Yes in the car, twice over ten years, and I expect to have to in the truck one of these days too, but not under warranty. Yours is still under warranty right? Mine was in an '89 Buick Park Avenue. One had an arc where a diode blew probably due to somekind of electrical event, the other was a circuit board fracture that caused a failure when the weather turned cooler. Keep us posted about the fix.

In your owners manual it tells you how to program your key fobs. When you add one you must reprogram all of them including the originals. It is simple to do if you follow the instructions in your owners manual.

I bought, and installed, my keyless entry after I bought the truck. The keyless entry kit came with 2 fobs and a small module that plugs into the back of the dash (that was a bear to get plugged in). It's a long shot, but maybe the module has worked its way loose? Have you checked the fuses?

Good luck!

Question

B1... did the kit come pre-programmed or did you need to visit the dealer?
Nxpress... is the truck still under warranty? If not I have the means to re-program, BUT I would need the module out from the back of your speedo head, and the fobs, I have instructions on how to install this, w/photos. I have had mine out so many times I think it's a piece of cake . When your truck comes with very little in the way of options, you just keep adding them and figure out to make them all work...It helps when you have friends in all the right places !!! Mine came basic and now has all but leather.

Nascarcamper,
The friends in the right places you mentioned aren't from Saltillo, Mexico are they? Your story reminds me of the Johnny Cash tune where the guy works at the car plant and brings one home piece by piece in his lunch bucket and assembles it. Now if you can just get them moving on the leather??????????

Nope... No Espanola!!! Had leather in my 2001 2500 CTD, didn't like it, neither did my two dogs. The hardest thing so far was the leather wheel with radio controls, making them work was interesting but we got them working. It's amazing when you live in MI and work in the auto industry the people you meet.

I bought it pre programmed from a guy that sells on e-Bay. IIRC, it was ~$120 with shipping (2 fobs and the module). There were cheaper kits available, but they needed programming after install.

I didn't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of NOT having to visit the dealer for the programming.

PM me if you want the guys e-mail addy. He sells "off e-Bay" as well.

I also bought the factory alarm (with the coded keys) from another place. That WILL need programmed by the dealer...if I ever find the time to install it. I've had it laying in my garage for over 6 months

Take care,
Tim
