Keyless Entry Programming

I have an 03 as stated in my sig..

I got the truck, and it did not have a keyless entry with it, the keychain one..

Only have one ock on the doors, on dirver door.

I went and bought a controller from the dealer yesterday, and I have beens earching for the programming procedure, but think I have a problem.

Do I have to have at least one pre-existing kelyess entry controller to get the programming function to start for the new controller?

If so, I guess the only other way for me to have it done, is take it to the dealer and spends $50 for 10 mins worth of work.

Can some one give me an answer?

You are correct, you need to have 1 functional FOB to program additional FOBs. Without one that works you need the DRBIII programmer at the dealer.

greattttt!!!

now I get to go back to the dealer where i bought the FOB and pay them another $50 for the 10 mins to do this...

Note:

I was looking at the screen yesterday when they were looking up the Key FOB, and the dealer price for the FOB was $20.50, and they charged me $35.95 for it.

It won't do you any good to look on E-Bay because without the proper code # on the back of hte keyfob that he doesn't have it may not work. You have to have the proper RF codeing and there are different ones.

My two new FOBs just arrived in the mail today. Reprogramming went as per the owner's manual.

Granted you need to know the P/N and maybe the FCC ID off the back of the FOB but the FOBs I just bought on eBay fit the following vehicles:
2001 2002 2003 2004 DODGE DAKOTA R/T
2001 2002 2003 DODGE DURANGO R/T
2002 2003 2004 2005 DODGE RAM HEMI & R/T
2002 2003 2004 2005 DODGE RAM DIESEL 3500
2001 2002 2003 DODGE CARAVAN GRAND CARAVAN
2001 2002 2003 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LXI LX
2001 2002 CHRYSLER PROWLER

P/N 04686481 AC
FCC ID: GQ43VT17T

I'm wondering if people who don't have ANY FOBs could get the P/N and FCC ID from the dealer after the dealer does a scan with their DRBIII and then use that info to buy off of ebay? The dealer would still need to program at least the first FOB.

I'm also curious if ALL Dodge Ram diesel pickups from 2002 through 2005 use the exact same remote, i.e. P/N 04686481 AC? I'm not convinced the FCC number matters but who knows? Any owners out there between 2002 AND 2005 have a P/N or FCC ID number on their FOB different from above?

The 2 new FOBs I just bought cost less than $40 and programming was free. I'd rather see fellow members spending their money on their kids instead of at the $tealer.

I have one key that works. I have tried to program the other key per the owners manual. No luck. How do you do it with one working key?
Thanks,
Mark

Are you talking about the keyless entry (lock/unlock the doors) or are you talking about the Sentry Key (ignition kill) programming?

Sorry but the Sentry Key programming requires 2 working keys to program additional keys. You will need to pay a dealer to program that 2nd key. Once that is done, buy yourself a couple additional keys on ebay and program them yourself.

funny story here. I got a 3rd keyless remote for mine off of ebay. It came in the mail today. I was already going to the dealership to get the diesel exempt sticker put on it so I figured what the heck I'll just let the dealership program it so I dont have to do it when I get home. So Im in the break area reading the paper for about 2 minutes when some clown in nice casual attire comes in and says thats the wrong remote I cant even get it to recognize the truck and the part number is different. so Im thinking great I just got shafted by an ebay seller that listed the wrong part number. When I got the fobs back I looked, looked again, squinted looked again, and by gosh all the numbers on the back were the same. So when I got home I got my paper with the RKE programming instructions and walla in about 30 seconds I had it going
