I have a mounted handheld GPS that I want to power like the stock stereo head unit on my 2007. The key-off power on until the door opens thing. Do I need to splice into the head units power wire to get this done or is there a better solution?

Please forgive if this has been answered. I searched to the best of my availabilities without success. I found that an ecm update can the extend the time before shutdown but not options for tapping.

the other option is the cig lighter power wire. The one on the left is on with the key and off when the door opens just like the stereo.
