key fob problems

2006 2500. For some reason all my doors stopped unlocking with one press of the unlock button. I have tried to reprogram with my key fob per owners manual, but it doesn't do it. I tried another sequence to have all of the doors unlock when the drivers door opens and it worked, however it also canceled my park lights flashing when locking and unlocking the doors. I tried to get that back and it wont reprogram. Has anyone had this happen? Low battery in key fob? I'm thinking I should probably unhook the batteries for a while for a computer reset. Any thoughts?

My wife's Durango has that combined key fob thing and it causes strange things to happen when it's battery gets low. I would change the fob battery first if you have not done it before. I think it is a CR 2032.

3rd on the battery

Mine was doing strange things off and on. Grabbed my spare and no issues. Replaced the battery in the original and again no more issues.

thanks guys. I tried my other key and it didn't work either, but its the original batteries in both which are 6 and a half years old. I'll change the battery and see what happens.

opening this one back up. i changed the battery in the remote. still nothing. my lights stopped flashing when i lock and unlock the truck. i cant turn the following on or off... horn chirp while locking, park light flashing while locking, all doors unlocking on one button press. those are the ones i've tried and nothing happens. i get no chime indicating the program change and likewise, the program doesnt change. before i replaced the battery, i unhooked my batteries for a couple of minutes hoping that would reset the ecu.

any other thoughts?

Try and start the truck. If it starts, then dies, either your key fob itself or the receiver in the column is faulty.

I drive the truck everyday. Nothing is out of the ordinary except not being able to enter programming through the key.

also, i've tried both of my keys. neither are working. is the column receiver something i can look at to troubleshoot or would it be just throwing parts at it hoping for the best? I'm not really sure how the key fob programming works. Does the fob rely on battery power and still transmit when you're trying to program things or does the transmission go through the steering column?

The receiver in the column is still good, otherwise you wouldn't be able to start the engine. So with that said, the fobs are good, and so is the receiver. I'd look for a blown fuse next.

My wife's Yukon did something similar. Everything worked fine except the remote did not work. Turned out he brain for the remote/other function, not security was malfunctioning. It was replaced, expensive bugger at the dealer, and all has been good for the last 25k.

RKE Module

The receiver is located in the back of the gauge cluster, I have instructions for removal if needed, fairly easy DIY. Send me a e-mail (hairy@centurytel.net) address and I will send it to you if you need. I also have the equipment to reprogram the module while out of the truck.
