Smile Just got an email...Warranty ????

Just got an email...

"More people choose Warranty Direct than any other direct provider of extended coverage. Our Warranty Advisors will tell you we are the most trusted provider but don't take their word for it, take theirs.... "

Your thoughts for my 03/3500/4x4/srw/extened cab, with 30K, they want more than $1650 to cover upto 60K total milage. It is worth it? Has anyone done business with them? Should I get an extended warranty? If so from WHO???

Thanks for you assistance and comments in advance.

Your not wrong

I didn't even think about that. You are right it does have a 7/70 doesn't it? Why then should I spend more to cover what is already covered? DUMB QUESTION!!! Thanks guys.

7/70 is only power train... don't forget the 7/100 cummins warranty on the engine.

I got a letter in the mail today from some extended warranty company. They said they could cover me if I had less then 135k miles. Sorry, I passed that about 45k ago.

I did buy one for a 1990 Mustang I bought new. The company went under after the first two years. It wasn't near as expensive as they are now, but it still chapped my rear a little. Oh well, I never did need it anyway.

I've been getting those offers in the mail recently too. I circular file them. Most of those offers only make $$$ for the insurance companies; I'll take that risk.

I bought an extended warranty on two new 4 wheelers a couple of years ago. It was $800 for the pair, the Polaris company wanted $1100 each for their warranty.

I thought I was being really slick by getting such a bargain from a place called Warranty Gold. Paid the policy in full and within 6 months started getting letters from bankruptcy courts telling me they had gone under and I would be considered for a partial reimbursement after their case was heard.

Two years later and just last month I got a letter from a U.S. Bankruptcy court telling me all their debts had been dissolved and I was just S.O.L.

Gerry, I think the 7/100 engine warranty is for past models. I've heard this many times but I can't find it in my 05 warranty book. I've love to be wrong. Please let me know the page. Thanks.

The ENGINE and most of the fuel sustem is 7/100 on Cummins engine. It remains this way in 06 also. There was a 5/100 for a few years so do some double checking. 06 the BASIC warranty and oher parts of POWERTRAIN are 3/36.The 7/70 has been dropped again.

Here's an earlier DTR post about extended warranties that I created when I faced a similar dilemma. Notice HERB's post about his experiences.

I wrote the warrenty company and told them what was said here about the 7/70K this is the reply I got...

"Your 7 year/70,000 mile coverage is only for the engine and transmission.
You will not have coverage for air conditioning, brakes, anti lock brakes,
electrical, electronics and thousands of other parts after 36,000 miles. "

So is it true that in about 6K I will not have coverage on anything but the powertrain? If that is the case...is the warrenty a good idea? AC repairs alone could cost the $1600. But I think that thier exceptions list alot of the stuff listed in his reply. Your thoughts????

Check the BBB and the FTC for info on the company. How long have they been in business? Where are they based, etc..................

The Warranty is a good idea. The problems are with the companies selling you the warranty. Like stated above find out exactly what the company processess is for claims, ask for references, etc. Read ALL of the fine print. If you plan on keeping the vehicle a long time then a good extended warranty will usually save a little money in the long run.
