interior light door switch

First off, I have searched last night on the site for about an hour; did not find what I was looking for. I am trying to hook up running board lights to the door switch. When the door open I want the lights to come on. Door shut, lights off.
Anyone know where I can splice into the wires that gets power with doors open. I know I will have to splice into each side to get to operate.
I have looked into those deployable running boards, but most of them have a wiring harness not just splicing into a single wire.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

Don't hold me to this but i think the switches go to ground so you could get power from anywhere and use the switch for your ground

What wire/wires is the switch connected to? I can't find a physical switch on the door or door jam to even get an idea. There is a cluster of wires coming from the door to the chassis. Which one of these wires connect to the interior lights??

thats where the wire is but you would have to get a schematic diagram to tell you which one. unless you take the door cover off and look at the latch inside. i did what your wanting to do to a chevy i had it does look nice and is convenient

Would anyone be so kind to post a link to such wiring diagram. Better yet, anyone know what color wires to splice to to make my light come on upon opening the door?

This is what I found for a diagram.
Can anyone read which wires will "trigger" the interior lights??
Sorry guys, I have to be spoon fed. I have no experience whatsoever with electrical concepts.
Thank you in advance

looking at it it would seem easier to use the wire to the dome lamp off the back of the instrument cluster, the yl/lb witch is the 21 on the c1. take a test light and see if it has power to it only when the door is open

Checked the fuse. It is on constant, with the door open or closed.

Tested that cluster, looks like it is grounds the light out, not powering it.
Will try that then get back to you guys.

Great site, reference it many, many , many times for info!!
Thanks again.

I'd suggest pulling your driver's side A-Pillar (Grab handle) off and check which of those wires hidden behind it gets juice when the dome light is on. If I were to do this then that's where I would start...

Don't know if you have tried getting the door open signal from the same place as the amp power steps or not but here is a link to a thread.

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ight=amp+steps

First post explains which wire does what. In the second post I linked a site with color pictures and explained where to find them. Hope this helps you.

I have found a couple of violet wires connected to the headlight switch, but nothing that related directly to the "door adjar" connection.
I will try both of the suggestions you guys offered and see how it goes. I will give you updates to let you know how it goes.
Thanks again guys!

Were you ever able to figure this out for the wiring? I'm currently trying to do this and think I have the right wires. But still trying to figure it out
