instrument panel question

what does it mean If you hold down the trip reset button on the dash and turn the key on. All of the lights come one and all of the dials start turning. Scared me to death. it then showed a code something like (aa 16) then (ap 17) then (00 00) then everything went back to normal.

anythoughts would be helpfull

thats just a test to see all the gauges work. its like a big x-mas tree. no need to worry you didnt hurt anything. it is also another way to check if you have codes. i know it is supposed to read 00 00 at one point but not sure on the (aa 16) and (ap 17) someone else here with better details will chime in...
