Info needed 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

I am looking at purchasing a used 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Bighorn Edition that has 52,000 on the ticker. It has the 5.9L mated to a 48RE transmission. I am not very knowledgeable on the 2007's, are there any potential problems with that year model that I should look out for? How about the transmission, my 2004 had the NV5600 so I have no experience with the automatics. Also, the dealer is asking $30,480, do you think that is a fair price pending the truck looks to be in good shape? Any info. and/or advice you can provide me with is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have an 07 5.9 with the 48RE and I think it is great. There aren't really any specific things I can think of that they had problems with. As long as the tranny has been taken care of and not hot rodded everywhere, it will last. 30K is a lot for a used truck though, I didn't spend much more for mine. If I was to buy a used truck I would look more at private party sales, you will find a better deal than at a dealer. My truck has 25k on it and I wouldn't even think of asking 30k for it. Just my .02

I love my 07. It has all the factory improvements to the engine and the exhaust and no DPF. Just had the 30,000mi maintenance done at the dealer (ya I know I could have done it my self for a lot less but the dealer has it on computer that the maint is done) and every thing is ok with the trans. I tow a 8,000lbs travel trailer every summer and lots of city driving. Click on link for story about my vacation and 07 truck. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....html?t=259756

I have 51000 miles on my 07 and the only thing I have had trouble with is the fount brakes. Had to have both calipers replaced at about 30000 miles.

Over 30k is high. 26-28 is more like it but as always, the lower the better

The problems I think you'll find if the truck is good will be upgrading the steering or some of the small things like everyone has put some attention to in some way or another.

Thanks everyone for the information. I too feel that $30,000 is a little steep for a used truck considering I paid $32,800 for my 2004 brand new, granted that was seven years ago. I would like to find one for sale by a private party, but around here that is nearly impossible. The dealer has called me multiple times today trying to get me to buy the truck, but I haven't committed because I don't feel the price is right and he isn't giving me what I feel is a fair trade in value on my 2009 Jeep Rubicon. I stumbled across a 2006 today in a neighboring state, I plan to drive down this weekend and check it out. Either way, I want to get me another CTD.

Mine (See Sig) with 50,000 miles has a Dealer selling price of $29,765. Private sale is $26-27,000.

IMO '07 is the best year for a 5.9. I have 50k and had the steering linkage and trans shudder recalls, that's it. No other problems Smarty JR level 1 all the time. Light towing.

Pulled the trigger on a 2006 Bighorn Edition, Silver in color with the 48RE automatic transmission this past weekend. It has 62,000 on the ticker. I went over the truck throughly and couldn't find anything that looked like a problem. Everything looks to be stock clean down to the factory muffler. I removed the airbox and plumbing and looked at the intake side of the turbo and it looked good, with minimal shaft play. The truck has been leveled and it has a fairly new set of 295/70-17 Toyo M/T's. I think the truck looks and runs awesome. Hope it will provide me with many years of service to come.

I'll post some pics on here as soon as I figure out how to. I have been a member on here a long time, but I have never posted pics. I will research it and throw a few on here...., that is when my newborn will allow me the time.

I was reading up on this site earlier tonight, and came across a discussion on c codes. I wasn't aware that you could press in the odometer reset button and turn the ignition switch on and do a gauge test and check for c codes. Anyway, for the fun of it I checked my truck for c codes and got the following: . 285, c 447, s 127. Does anyone know what these mean? I did a search on here but could not come up with anything. I checked for P codes by turning the ignition switch on and off three times, and I didn't get anything there. If anyone can chime in and shed some light on these c codes, I would really appreciate it. Oh yeah, I am going to get some pics on here, just haven't got to it yet. Thanks!
