Infinity system with aftermarket radio install

I got my aftermarket Pioneer radio & XM tuner yesterday & figured out after getting no audio that the factory amp must be causing some kind of problem. I seem to remember years ago having a similar problem with a Dodge vehicle that required a jumper harness to bypass the factory amp.

Can anyone tell me more on this? Where is the factory amp located?

thanks

I don't remember part numbers but get on crutchfield.com and punch in your vehicle info and you should find the interface box you're looking for. It is different depending on the year of your truck. They are expensive so better to just use them to research then buy on ebay.

There is another current thread that has the pn you need and it is not that expensive. It is a jumper and crutchfields has them. It is on the 5.9 performance forum.

Yep, everyone should do that. Use the expertise from one place, and buy from another to save a few dollars. Oh, but then doesn't the knowledgeable place that helped you out have no business; and then don't they go out of business? Then who are you going to ask?

Thread jack done, sorry.

i know what you mean.

but i buy from cructhfield, because they give you EVERYthing you need to install.

they left out one piece to put DVD Navi in my 06, and sent it to me free and apologized.

crutchfield has to charge enough to have that depth of research and support for thier customers.

i will pay more for them to stand behind what i buy

back on thread:

the amp is by the passenger side dash speaker.

If you are calling them for support or requesting in depth info you can't find anywhere else I can see your point you should buy from them because you are recieving something extra that could (in some peoples opinion) justify their rediculous pricing... but to look for a part number for the bypass harness or interface box on their website, no harm done. I'm sure you make online purchases from the first website you go to, wouldn't want to use any of their bandwith without making a purchase, they could go bankrupt.

Back on topic.. To the origninal poster sorry your thread got crapped on, again Crutchfield is a good site if you like their prices buy from them if not ebay is a good alternative.

Thanks all.

I did call Crutchfield and the guy told me he only had the radio wiring harness that lets you keep the factory amp with an aftermarket radio. It has RCA plugs coming out of the adapter plug. I went ahead & made one of these myself to use until I get my Kicker amp installed. Then I'm going to run the RCA's from my aftermarket head unit to the inputs of the amp. When I manage to get to the speaker wire harness at the factory amp, I'm going to just splice into the wires, keeping the plug on. That way if I decide to sell the truck I can just cut out the added wires and plug it back into the factory amp. My local stereo shop wants 60 bucks to order the harness that plugs into the amp speaker plug. I can order it my self for 30 & shipping. But I can splice & solder for free!
