Infinity -- Shimnity!!!

Well, the 6 disc CD changer broke about 2 months ago. All the little lights in the radio went out 1 month ago. And now the bass is gone. Couldn't stand to listen to it anymore.
Went to Dodge - Star has a radio swap program for the Infinities @ $200.00 a pop. (gee I wonder why??) Tech (friend) at the shop tells me that the bass problem may not be the radio - could be the amp. Also, Dodge tells me not to try and get my CD's out, they will get them out, however they are NOT responsible if any of my CD's get damaged getting them out!! YOOO, there's classic Floyd in THERE!!
Oh well, I drive alot of hours, I gotta have something. I need the radio to get the CD player/changer so I fork over the money figuring a $200.00 fix.
So for $200.00 & change I now have the little lights on the radio, the CD player/changer but still NO BASS!!
Dodge says $275.00 for an amp plus four days to deliver. Jeeessshh. Now I'm looking at almost $500.00 - not to upgrade or get anything better, but just to replace what was there!! Infinity - doesn't that mean it should keep going & going, errr, guess that was a battery.

It means quit screwing with the overpriced stock stereo stuff and get a stereo shop to put some real equipment in there.

You should have posted here about your problem first. I am sure more than one member would have gladly sold you their infinity head unit. I just pulled mine out of my truck yesterday and replaced it for RB1

I have not sold it yet. I still have the infinity speakers and stock amp. I stepped up to the Dodge RB1 head unit. Makes the system sound a little better too.

The head units are all the same. It's the amp and speakers that make it an Infinity system....

Looks expensive. If you don't mind me asking, how much was that unit?

the infinity amp is up above the glove box, by the passenger air bag.

I had one I gave away, pretty much useless.

search EBAY,

or search for how to bypass it - it's just a "booster" amp like we had in high school. the deck puts out a speaker level signal, and the infinity just amps that up a little bit.

So did you replace it with another amp? I think the Infinity system sounds really good. But I wouldn't mind it sounding better.

No offense intended here, but the problem was purchasing the factory Infinity junk in the first place. Being in the car audio world for a dozen years, I can't count the number of times I have replaced "up level" factory equipment from "Infinity" and "Bose" and such. It has made me a good hunk of change over the years though. Take the stuff back to the dealer, get your money back, and find a stereo shop to deal with for real gear that won't let you down.

Think of it like this: If you have the money to buy what you want, would you go to the dealer and get a drop in plastic bedliner or go get a Linex?

But for a "free" stereo system (at least for the Laramie) it sure does sound good! And yes, I hate the drop in liner. All it did was scratch up my bed.

Good point and valid for people who are satisfied with it's performance. But when it dies, should you return to the dealer and spend more money for another round of moderately overpriced, inferior equipment that will die again.......?
