Infinity audio ?'s

I have searched but not found what I'm looking for. I have the Infinity 6-disk, uconnect-sat. but no Nav. or DVD. I want to put an IPOD & aftermarket amp to power a 10" sub but keep the HU & 7 factory speakers. How can I EASILY do this? TIA

Get the Pac-Chy harness. E-bay has them.

the PAC-CHY you can also hook up an amp for a sub? I know it will do the IPOD.

The PAC-CHY is correct. Thats what I have for my IPOD. Line level converter from the L/F door speaker to amp to run sub.

Also, if you have a 2nd gen ipod, you will need an adapter to support the charging.

Are you saying a seperate 'converter' is needed for the amp?

From what I've read the PACwon't help me as far as the amp goes. Why use the left front door speaker as the wire for the output line converter?

I can't remember what it is exactly, not many know because no one bothers. By the time you pay outrageous cost for the OEM Ipod adapter and adapter for the amp, you could buy a nice aftermarket deck. I'd say your looking at almost $200 to JUST hook up the amp. I think you *can* tap a speaker wire for the amp, depending on the amp, but the subs will be nowhere near the quality as using RCA's.

I'm using a Trunk-Loc PAC with a remote turn-on for my subs. The PAC is what you need to use. Most, including myself, have tapped into the passenger side door speaker. The reason you have to tap into one of the front door speakers is because on the Infinity Audio System, the low decibel signals are sent to the front doors. Mids and highs are sent to the rear doors. Highs are up front in your tweeters. Needless to say, if you don't tap into the front door speakers, you won't be sending the proper low signals to the amp.

Out of error, I originally had my subs hooked up to the passenger rear door speaker. Figured out my mistake and am now sending the signals from the passenger front door speaker. HUGE difference.

It's easy to get to the wires on the passenger side. Just pull up the trim piece next to the door seal and remove the kick panel. You can put your PAC in the kick panel and just run your RCA's from the PAC to wherever your amp is.

Sorry I can't remember the wire colors off the top of my head. Do a search and you should be able to find the right colors. Hope this is somewhat helpful...

I have rather high quality amp & sub. Will I lose quality in the sound by using the Trunk-loc PAC? The JL Cleansweep is nice but where do you hook it to(before or after the amp, front door speaker, etc.)? I guess I could use the Trunk-loc & the iPAC-CHY but it seems like a bunch of stuff to be wiring in.

I'm sure you'll be losing some quality. In order to keep your quality up to the best level, you'll be best of ditching the stock head unit and replacing with the aftermarket unit of your choosing. Then you can just run your RCAs and not worry with a PAC. In my experience, anytime a PAC is used, you will end up sacrificing some quality. Is it enough to matter? Depends on you. The amp and subs I have in my truck are very seasoned. I don't expect to win any audio competitions with my sound system, but it definitely fits the bill for me.

You can buy a PAC for $20-$25. Buy one, install it, and decide for yourself. If it's acceptable to you, go ahead and get the converter you need for your IPOD. Else, just buy a new head unit.

Good luck with your decision.

Do you tap before or after the amp? If I can tap before the amp I think it would be better.
