idea for a clock mod

ever since i installed my alpine 9835, i lost my clock. it has a clock, but it only displays in military time, and only when the unit is on. the older alpines displayed normal time and did so even when the unit is off! it is worth sharing this is the only thing i don't like about this unit.

so i was thinking of some way to add an analog clock. a 2" white face clock would look great in the blank panel below the vent to the right of the center dash. any idea where to get one of these? it'd be cool if it was backlit for night use. it'd compliment the white gauges nicely.

Check the J&P cycle catalog. I have seen white face clocks in their catalog. http://www.jpcycles.com/

That sounds like a great idea. Check Autometer Phantoms. They have a clock.

Are you sure the clock on your radio can't be changed to show 12 hour time instead of 24 hour time?

I think hoss is right - my alpine's in the past all had the option to change from 12 to 24 hour time. Also you may be able to wire it so that the time is displayed always as well. I'd double check with Alpine or your stereo shop before getting too complicated

My alpine HU shows standard time.

Yep, mine is the 7894. Was looking @ the one you got. Still thinking I might get it. IS it a night/day comparison?

100% sure, i called alpine and asked. the 9835 is 24 hour only. my 2002 alpine 7894 was 12 hour and displayed the time when the unit was off, the 9835 displays only when the unit is on and requires scrolling through different display options. don't know how or why but it's a worthwhile tradeoff, the unit is amazing.

I saw something you would like. 2'' white face with the rams head looked factory. try jegs.com or summitracing.com.

You sure it's a clock? My '03 shows elapsed time (since the last reset) in the overhead console.

the internals are pretty much the same, i don't think the 60x4 v-drive amp has changed any since the 7894. to me, the real advantages to the 9835 are the display, satellite radio compatibility (XM or sirius) and its tuning capability. apparently i can burn a CD from alpine's webpage, put it in the unit, and it will set the time correction for my specific truck. it's a great unit, sounds the same as the 7894 but has much more features and an awesome display.

My parents have a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica which has a 2" white faced analog clock. You might want to try Chrysler parts dept. to see if you can get one for a decent price. You may even have an unused wire/fuseable link that fits it already behind the panel. Just a thought.

Yeah, that time correction stuff can make you get dizzy quick trying to fine tune it. But once you get it, ahhh, the music is sooo sweet. That would be cool for Alpine to config the interior sound for yah. Dang, guess I'll have to make a visit someplace this weekend . "Honey, I'll be back, got to go wash the truck". She knows better, but I try....
