Unhappy I cant belive he did it!

My buddy just went to the dark side. He bought a 2004 chevy 2500 diesel. Its got the "LLY" motor. He wants to make it fast. So now Im worried, it looks like I need to spend the money an not let this happen. Anyone know how that truck responds to upgrades(programmers)?

Well, a Chevy DMax really isn't the "Darkside". Chevy does have a better interior and a better ride. The DMax is an OK motor. It's just not a CUMMINS. At least he didn't buy a Ford Powerstroke. Now that would be like joining the "Darkside"!!!!!!!

Didn't the 04 LLY have all the issues with overheating and going into limp mode?

Some of the lly's (04 and 05) overheated but most of them are fine. And, YES it will be very fast if he tunes it right. Think 13 flat with just tuning, trans, and lift pump. My old duramax was much faster than my cummins, mod for mod. But, I liked my gmc, but LOVE my dodge.

I had an '05 LLY Duramax. I wouldn't say that it had a better interior or ride (stock for stock) compared to an '06 Ram.

The Chevy shocks came blown from the factory, I may as well have replaced them with cylinders made of wood. There was also a huge lack of storage space in the cabin compared to the Dodge trucks.

The one advantage that truck has is a great AC.

The thing Chevy has on Dodge are the high beams and the AC.

nope drove an 07 chevy 3500 and its ride was far better then any of the dodges that i have had. the fuel mileage was poor and not all the power was their but other then it still got pretty hot climbing with a load it was an alright truck. i'd probably by one since i've had such a problem with my 07 iif i was going to buy a new truck. but i got smart and put a 12v in my 03 and now i have a great truck

So I have a 7.3 Powerstroke and a Cummins? I hope I am not too far gone to that dark side.

The Duramax is going to be fast. They respond well to mods and do well at the track. Honestly the one thing I did not like about them was the IFS front end and the looks, but overall thought they were a good truck.

My boss has an 05 lly and it has been a very good truck. He has a 5" Magnaflow turbo back ex, S&B intake, Edge juice w/ attitude and a built trans and has modded the fuel rail so the rail does not drain and cause the truck to go into limp mode. I am proud to say that my 06 with JR on the 70hp setting and my S&B intake can beat him pretty bad from a stop and will outrun him until I hit around 98 or so and he will pass me with his raised speed limit. From 50 on up I can pull him but not quite as bad as from a dead stop. His rides nice and is quiet but it sits low and 285 75r 16's rub on the wheel wells.

At least Dodge still have a manual available. If I ask a Chevy guy to drive my truck he would ask me "what that tree trunk sticking from the floor with a Cummins **** and the extra pedal between the parking brake and the service brake?"...they would not understand even if I attempt to explain.

Edge doesnt remove speed limiter, so he should stop at 98mph same as you. Ive never driven a CTD with a smarty on it though so I dont know how they run.

I would love to be able to find an 05 Duramax/Allison reg. cab short bed to mod. A friend has one, it is the quickest thing I have ever seen. No truck around here will touch it at the pull or the track.
