Wetspirit, thanks for the answer. In all the various posts I have read about going up in tire size, this is the first that I have read about the larger tires steering the truck. Any difference in ride comfort between the stock size and the larger sizes?
Tires are not hard to get where I am, it is just the 17 inch tires in the larger diameters. Although there are two Michelin tire plants within 5 miles of me, they don't make any 17" tires here and the local Michelin dealers don't even list them.
Knockoffs would be great, but when I go up to the states it is just for a day or two and that does not give me enough time to locate and pick them up. Wish some kind soul in the San Antonio area could locate some fo me when I go up in December. hint, hint.
I have rotated my tires every 10,000 miles but am still disappointed in how fast these tires are wearing. Only recently have I noticed a slight uneven wear on one front tire so presume I need a steerign alignment.
Is there much of a difference in price between the Michelin's and the BFG's?

why don't you order them from a Sams Club a week or so before you go up? You could order and pay for them over the phone and have them sitting waiting for you.

I am thinking of jumping up to 315's but am not yet sure of which brand to go to. The majority of my driving is highway and when I do go on unpaved roads they are red gumbo and as far as I can tell, no tread design works in that stuff as it builds up and sticks too fast. I have the Michelin's on now and they have been good. Have abused them by driving over all kinds of brush, hitting sidewalls on the stupid curbs here and more, but they have held up and so far have not required balancing. I am a bit disappointed in the wear rate as I have only 39,000 miles on them and am very close to the wear bars. I don't burn rubber either.
What brand and size would you guys recommend for the tire that provides the most comfort with no load? Ditto for providing the best wear? I realize that these two do not always go together. A quiet riding tire is also of interest, but in a truck that would rate last. I am thinking of going with the Michelin 315's but after reading about other brands would consider something else.
Any idea of the going price for Michelin 315's?
On my cars the best tires I have ever had have been the Yokahama's. They improve the ride, are very quite and are great in wet weather. Anybody have any knowledge if they make a tire to fit our trucks?

How about this link? Discount Tire has 17" tires. Lots of em. I am sure you can find one in San Antonio without a problem.

I also got great wear from the stock BFGs. I am at 38K with about
5K left. They wear perfectly flat across. I have already bought my next
set and have them in the garage. Got 4 of them on EBAY for 200 bucks ttl.

Hopeful that they do as good as the first set but I'm sure I'll get my
$ 200.00 worth.

TexasCTD, thanks for the info. I called Discount Tire and they tell me that Michelin do not make a 315 and that BFG are the only company to make a 17" tire in the 315 size. For you guys running 315's, what brands are they and what load rating?
Unfortunately I cannot call Sam's Club so would appreciate somebody calling them for me & finding out what they can supply in 315's and the price.

New Nokian size 285/70/17

I called Nokian directly (usa, not Finland...) and they told me production was underway for a 285/70/17 Vativa tire.

Does anyone have any experience with the Vativa in the 265? or on another vehicle?

From what I can tell, they might be worth looking at, expecially if you plan on living where there is a winter!

35 " tires?

Anyone have experience with 35" tires on a stock 3500 4 x 4?

I'm ready to buy a set of Toyo Open Country A/T's in 325/12.50x17 tomorrow.

Yesterday I bought 5 BFG 285/70/17 TA KO tires from Discount tire. So far so good. Also had dealership reset my speedometer to account for the bigger tire size.

The stock BFG Rugged Trails i thought were a great tire. They were wearing very well at 28,700 miles and probably would more than double that mileage. I just didn't want to wait that long till they wore out...LOL.

The new ones have a much more aggressive tread and the size IMHO fits the truck perfect.

I just put 5 BFG All Terrain KO's on my truck and sold the stock Rugged trails. I went with 285/70/17's on the stock rims. No noticable power loss, but do notice a slight drop in RPM's on the X-way, and the ride is no where near as "choppy", which to me is good.

I tried going to my local Costco, and they gave me the best deal, but they wont put on any size other than what comes on the vehicle from the factory. To me its a BIG B.S. thing, because the Power wagon comes with 285's, and the 285's have the same weight handleing as the factory tires.

The only complaint I have is my truck only has 2,500 mi. on it, and it and it drove pin straight to the tire shop, but with the new tires, I have a slight pull to the right, and when you let go of the wheel, or brake, the will keeps centering off to the right a little. I guess I'll have to go back and say something, my luck, their gonna try and get an alignment out of me

Badd Dog, where did you buy your tires since Costco didn't want to cooperate? I traded in my tires to Discount tire for a $200 credit.

I think my truck feels like it lost some power, but not enough to worry about. I got mine realigned because I just added a leveling kit. It was only 59.95 at the dealer. I was kinda surprized it wasn't more than that.

Also, the PW, IMHO looks pretty awesome. That is one reason i went with the 285's and have PW fender flares waiting to install.

I first tred the Costco on Staten Island, and than I called the One in Jersey and they both gave me the same line of B.S. I wound up going with a Known tire shop on the Island. Costco gave me a price of $1,025 for 5 BFG KO's in a 285/70/17 and that included mounting and balancing, Road hazard protection for 5 yrs, and Free lifetime balancing and tire rotations. I thouht that was a great deal just for the road hazard, but they told me they wouldnt put them on, the only way they would do it is if I was to bring them all my tires and rims, and not the truck!! Well, I have a very bad back, so that wasnt even an option for me. I got $450 for my stock tires, I actually sold them to a member off here that lived in Long Island.

If I can get this pulling problem solved, I'll be perfectly happy with these tires.

Mine were $1050 installed (with same warranties etc) minus $200 for my stock tires. But my stock tires had 28,700 miles on them....except for the spare.

They had a price increase recently due to inflation, fuel prices for transport blah blah blah. When I went in a month ago, they were $199 a piece retail...now they are at $211 retail....for tires only. Basically I talked them down to what they originally were......to 200 a piece. Then they tacked on the 10 a piece to install.

Good luck getting the pulling problem resolved. I wonder if all of your tires got balanced properly.
