HVAC Sucks!!!
My A/C and the blower motor have quit working. While going through alot of posts in the forum, and reading about all of the problems with this system, this question came to me.
Has anyone replaced, or ever considered replacing, the HVAC in these trucks with an after market system?
There are several on the market, and considering the cost of repairs for our stock systems, they are fairly inexpensive.

No warranty left. 206K miles.
Vintage Air is the first one that comes to mind. There are several companies that produce HVAC units.
Just check out what the street rod guys are doing. Pick up a magazine and you will find several ads.

206K on the factory A/C? Holy expletive!
Sorry but none of my Dodge trucks compressors made it passed 50K. They all got noisy and ended up seizing on me, fortunately never stranded, I started keeping a non-a/c belt with me just in case after the first one. The first one I was a block from a Autozone.

As far as I know, my compressor is still ok. The clutch just wont engage. Also I think the control head is out. It is doing some goofy things like staying on when you switch it to the off position.

Trying to get warranty service on the A/C is difficult too.
My truck ('06 Megacab) blows cold through the driver's side, albeit not as strong as it sounds like it should be blowing, less cold on the passenger side, and potentially HOT through the rear vents, especially if the blend is set at less than max cool.
I demonstrated it to the service writer twice, who acknowledged the problem both times. But the whole thing got shot down when the tech who was working on the issue said it was within spec. He said:
Driver's side = X*
Passenger side = Y = (X-5*)
Rear vent = Y-10*
Serious?? My poor kid can be roasting back there and I don't even know it. So the rear vent can be 15* hotter than the driver's side?!
I need to get the refrigerant levels checked also.

While I totally agree with you about our HVAC sucking....(i'm having problems myself) I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone out there making an aftermarket A/C system for new late modle vehicles.
People like vintage air produce A/C systems for hotrods, muscle cars, etc. There's not going to be one for our trucks.
I haven't dug into mine yet but i'm thinking that you might be able to upgrades the servos, doors etc. to help our inadaquate system operator better..at least i hope so.

These ac's are really a whole lot simple than you think, if you can learn them. I have my ac ICE COLD. The wife takes a blanket with her when we go on trips.
That's not saying some components are easy to get to, but it is possible to make it work very well with a little sweat and knowledge.

My "snowflake" light was staying lighted when it wasn't blowing. I'd reach under my pass. side dash and tap on my blower and sometimes it would come back on for a while, and then not. And it may blow pretty good and then slow down again. I finally replaced the a/c blower with new and it works great now. Don't know if that will solve your problem but it might be worth a try.

If that is what it is doing you have a bad ignition switch( I assume you mean the ignition switch is off, the fan is powered off the ignition switch. Also pull the steering colmn cover and inspect the wires. They have been known to get hot and melt making a bad connection.
As far as the A/C clutch not engaging. Jump the high/low pressure switch. If the clutch engages then you have a bad switch or are low on R134a. Your A/C has worked great. Most of ours haven't made it to 30,000 miles.....LOL
