anyone know how difficult it is to remove or replace the idiot light for the high beams. after two years it is now bothering me almost to the point of distraction. before i tore into the back of the dash just wondered if there was wisdom to pass on on how to get there.

you dont like seeing the blue light telling you that you have high beams on?? ummm ok.... that would make you forget and high beam people i bet...

 

I am with tcb on this subject. DC designed a way too bright highbeam indicator dash light. The headlights are not bright enough the way it is, let alone with the highbeam indicator blinding you. Cover the indicator with your hand and you will see what I mean. Doing so gives you better visibility. Too bad DC can't design brighter headlights and a dimmer highbeam indicator. Now if someone could just answer tcb's question we would greatly appreciate it. After almost two years of ownership it annoys me just as bad as the day I purchased the truck.

 

dima all the gauges down, that one should dim also. having them dim takes the glare off the inside of the windshield and keeps your eyes on the road.

one bit of electrical tape with a small hole in the middle so ya can still see that they are on but not as distracting? follow me ?

 

I remember seeing a post on here about two years ago and the guy had taken a circular cut out of window tint and put in on the plastic dust cover over the instrument panel at the high beam indicator and he said it worked like a charm!

I wouldn't mind doing that on the face of the cluster, but not over the clear plastic covering the gauges.

 

I have tried several of the mentioned fixes, tape w/hole, tinted mylar etc.. and my objection to the factory too-brite-blue indicatior is the "glare" that is noticeable due to my white guage's face

I agree, I want the lite dimmed from behind the dash.

 

Works everytime! and you can still see the blue light to know they are on.

 

I believe the light is actually a LED. Can anyone confirm this? If so, when I get some time, I am planning on replacing it with a lower light output LED. These are available a Radio Shack in any size, voltage and output. If it is an LED, it should be pretty easy to replace. Any thoughts?

What I can't understand, why isn't it red? Red is what pilots use to keep from destroying there night vision.

I think a lower wattage LED is a great idea if it is not too difficult to get to.

if it is too hard to get at the led itself popping a resistor inline to the power side of that led should lower its output. would just have to experiment with different levels of resistance to get desired dimness

 

appreciate all thoughts, but how do you get to the stinking bulb. i am at a loss to get to it. and appreciate tape with hole thought but that uglys up my dash.
