Question Help thinking about going back to a dodge

Just like my post says i am thinking about going back to a dodge CTD. I have a 2005 gmc now and it is a nice truck. But it does not get very good fuel milage in my eyes.I get around 16.5 on the highway.

So i have found two trucks i am looking at. But i would like to get your guys thoughts on them. The frist one is a

2007 silver 4X4 QC 4 door 5.9 CTD auto SB

The truck only has 17,000 miles on it and looks like a brand new truck.I drove it last week and it drove great no problems that i could tell or find. Also it fills like it has more lowend power than my gmc does with a 96 hp downloader on it. Oh for got to say they are asking 29,500 for the 07.Ok next truck everything the same as above but a 05 with 33,000 but they are asking 27,500 for it. I know it is a No brainer to get the 07. Was just wondering why they would sell a 05 with more miles for close to the same price as the 07. May be they bought the 07 back as a lemon?? How could you find out it it was bought back as a lemon?? Thanks Mopar72

I would say that the 05 is way over priced.

Are these at a Dodge dealer? They may be willing to print out a record of warranty work for both trucks, and maybe even print out Carfax for you to inspect.

The 05 I believe would have the 7/70 powertrain warranty, though there may be a fee to transfer it, along with the 7/100,000 engine warranty. The 07 I believe would have the 3/36 bumper to bumper, plus the engine warranty...

Are both totally the same (trim pacakge and all) other than miles, and year?

Chevy/GMC ...same truck , different name , different trim packages....

Don`t get rid of your truck because of fuel mileage....you`ll never re-coupe the amt. your ride has depreciated (sp?) in trade for , at most a few more miles per gallon.

Don`t kid yourself , 16-17 on the highway is the norm...guys getting in the mid 20s (and higher!) are the exceptions. Anyone I`ve known with a 3/4 ton , 4X4 ,diesel truck (any brand...GM are normally the highest) is getting less that 20 mpg.

Don`t start bashing me....I know there`s plenty of people that get 25+mpg here....that`s cool , I`m not saying your not , it`s just not the norm. Driving style , traffic conditions , hills , etc.. all factor into the numbers.

My truck w/37s CAN get 16-17 @60-63 mph , but that`s not my NORMAL commute. I`m in the 13 range driving to work and back , stuck in traffic , for 6 miles.

Anyway...if you really WANT a different truck , then that`s another story.

If it were me , and I was to pick one of the two you`re looking at , I`d get the `07 if they are the same trim (SLT?) package...just don`t expect a lot better mpg. and you won`t be let down.

I have an 06 Dodge & 06 GMC. My Dodge does get better mileage, but not enough to trade for. If you want a Dodge go for it but your mileage won`t be alot better.

The titan I traded out of was getting 13.5 mpg city, 15.5 mpg highway, 7-8 mpg towing. I purchased an 06 Dodge CTD and for me the mileage sofar is about a wash with the higher fuel cost. I didn't purchase the CTD for the mileage, but it was a consideration that made me pick the Dodge over brand X. I needed more truck for my trailer than a half ton, so the 3/4 ton was a good choice.

The prices sound a bit high, especially the 2005. With the price of Diesel so high the trucks have a relatively low value currently. There were many trucks available for $24-26K that were quad cab with ~30K miles on them. I ended up with a regular cab slt 4x4 with 15K miles for $21,900 plus taxes, $24K out the door.

My 03 SRW 4x4 quad would get 21+ hand calculated on the highway, but only if you drove 60 or 65. My current 06 dually will also do over 20, but again only if you keep speed down. Towing the 10-11k 5th wheel average is about 12.

Both trucks are stick shifts w/3.73 though. Auto trucks seem to get slightly less.

Anyway, how much the MPG difference might offset the cost of buying one of these trucks would depend on how long you want to keep it, and how many miles you put on... And if diesel ends up at $8 or higher...

Like these guys said, trading up to one of the dodges might not pay, but if you just want a Dodge because you want one, then go for it.

I'm with the others, better off keeping the current truck. But if you really want a CTD then do it.

Might try ditching the Hypertech for the EFI Live. Probably will get better fuel economy with the EFI.

If fuel mileage is the only reason for the swap, I would keep what you got. I average right at 15 MPG in my Dodge, so there is no guarentee that by swapping your Duramax for the Cummins will give you better fuel mileage.

Thanks for all the sound advice guys. But you are right i would probly losse my but on this truck in trade in.But like my post said i was just thinking about switching. But i will be looking into the efi live soon.Man i cant beleave most of you guys did not say leave that junky GMC and go back to dodge lol . But i was mostly interested in if you guys thought the 07 might of been a lemon.also for got to say the 07 had brand new nitto terra grapler 295/70/17 tires on it and the 05 would need tires soon. But i did not get a chance yet to really see if they were the same model truck. I do remember the 07 and the 05 were slt truck. also maybe the 07 might of had the big horn model to. thanks Mopar72

I didn't read that your GMC was a duramax. I looked at those when I got my Dodge, but the resale looked substantially higher on the Duramax. You might do OK selling the duramax outright, then purchasing a dodge while the valeus are depressed.

Dodges don't seem to hold resale as well as Ford and GMC. The Cummins engine holds it's value great, it's the rest of the truck that looses it's value... :-)

The general consensus around here has always been that a DMax would be the second choice for most of us. As far as that 07 being a lemon, aren't they supposed to destroy problem vehicles that thay buy back? PM RatlRatl. He can get you the service history on both trucks. I think you could get both vehicles cheaper than those asking prices these days. There are lots of trucks in the classifieds here too. Lastly, my 07 5.9 barely got better mileage than my current 08 6.7. 16 hwy is my average if I drive 75 but if I slow to 60-65 then I can see as high as 20 if there aren't any big hills to climb...
