Heater blower problem

While driving on the road, the blower suddenly stopped. No air at any fan speed. I checked the related fuse, fuse is good.

I gave a good hit with my hand below the glove box and it came back to life..

I would like to know, is it a bad contact, loose wire or simply the motor
is going south ?

Thanks,
Marc/

PS: Im talking about my 3rd gen truck..

Lots of reading on this. It normally is a bad connection at the steering colmn that comes off the ignition switch. At that connection that is where it will be burnt or you will have a bad ignition switch.

MY 06 did the same thing. Replaced the fan and no more issues.

Three screws and its out

the easiest way to tell if its the fan is:
take it but leave it plugged in,
spin the fan, if it starts, it has a bad spot in the armiture
replace the fan.

Yes, the power comes from th ignition switch to the blower motor. Very common to have someone have a burnt wire or bad ignition switch causing this issue. Take a look, you can't miss it.

Mine does the same thing...quits blowing, but a sharp tap(or a kick the first time, cuz I was mad at a frosty windshield!) to the motor housing brings it back to life. So I should also look at the ignition switch for a burnt wire, and the 4-5 times I've had to tap the blower housing were all coincidences or the tap travelled to switch to re-establish the connection?
Thanks,Mark

mine did the same... and jeeps had a recall on the same style blower motor.. bad (D5 recall) if i remeber right. the contacts go bad. happended more with the ones in the libertys, but some rams have the same motors.... swap it out. you will be fine. not sure about that ign switch issue.... you would think more would be wrong.. aka more would not work from that power feed.
