Got to love the AC design of these trucks.....

Well,
I joined the "Removed a million screws" to get the dash out of my truck club yesterday. I looked at the heater treater web site and wanted to make sure anything was broken before I ordered.

Well All my doors work as they should, but I did see that having three ducks on the passenger side was the reason for the low CFM flow out of those vents. I blocked the middle one off and now have great air flow to the other two vents. I need the center ones from the driver side and passenger side to work well to keep the kids comfortable.

I have installed the fan on the condensor and that helps out alot. Alot cooler out the passenger side now. Good, not great. Last step is to have the refrigerant checked again and see if thats low.

Dodge should be ashamed of itself and retrofit these trucks with a better system.

I have read too many posts from other websites and no one has found the cure yet. I am glad I dont have to use this truck everyday because its stupid hot at the moment in NC......

Thoughts....

A lot has been said for installing shutoff valves for the heater core. The HVAC systems on these trucks are a "hot deck-cold deck" system that always has water flow through the heater core whether you need it or not. You may be able to find threads here on this.

What's your A/C temp at the driver's side center stack vent register? Slip a AC thermometer in the vent and drive for awhile with the AC in recirc. I recently checked mine with 100 degree ambient and it was 40-42 degrees.

I was actually thinking about this to as an option, do you think this could damage the heater core?

MikeyB,
I had about 45-50 on the drivers side and about 65-70 on the passenger side.

I've been running a heater core bypass for a few years now, no problems. Did lower my AC temp by several degrees.

With the temperature variance between the two sides I would definitely have the freon pressures checked.

I was going to install two shutoff valves and a H style connector to keep the coolant flowing from the head to the other coolant line.

I just made mine with 1/2"pipe fittings and two ball valve so when #1 is open the flow is through the heater core and when #2 is open and #1 is closed the flow is bypassing the heater core.

If those were your reading you are low on R134 for sure. Mine will freeze my butt out. I just us recir(Max) to start with and then flip it to normal.

hi
i simply installed a shutoff valve in the front top where the heater hose connects to the head and close the valve in hot summer , no by pass or other piping ,
works great 100 deg outside blowes 38-42 deg while driving 40 mph or higher after 5 min .
3 12 oz cans of 134 <slightly over charged by mistake .> pull a good vacuum for 30 min if you do a recharge .

I will take some new readings again and see if they changed any since I blocked the center vent.

Thanks for your fan mod Spooler, it has made a difference so far in the out put on the passenger side.
