Good Deal? 04 Reg Cab ST Turbo Diesel

Hi, Im looking for a hunting truck that I can tow quads with or my Jeep TJ. Ive never had a diesel but thought it might be an ideal thing (well and pretty cool too ha). I found a 2004 Ram 2500 ST bare bones, but with the HO 5.9 Turbo Diesel, tow group, snow plow prep group, says it has upgraded axle and LSD on the original window sticker, skid plates, tow hooks etc. So it has everything I care about, nice engine, bigger rear and Im guessing 4.10 gears with a limited slip. It has 87k miles, and he is only asking $10k??? I dont know if its a mistake but Ill find out today when I go. Is this a steal at $10k if its mint, not used for work, bone stock but seems mint even with the original puny stock tires on cheapo steel rims. Im not made of money so I need to be smart with it, and was trying to be patient shopping for trucks but this one looks too good to be true?!??!

With the 4.10s (if thats what it has), could I do a 2.5" level kit, throw on some skinny 33s on those steel rims (buckshot mudders maybe?), and still be good for towing and drivability? I figure 4.10 should be good to up to 35s as long as I got the computer reprogrammed but thats just an uneducated guess.

Thanks!!!!

Sounds like an OK deal as long as it checks out good. Welcome to the site also!

Having a snow plow at one time is a flag to look closely for rust.

Is it a 4X4? The sticker should say what gear ratio it has in it. Most autos are 373's, and have plenty of power to tow what you are talking about. If it's a 4X4 you don't have to lift it. I have 33's on mine, and LOTS of guys run 35's on them at stock height. A lot more have a front leveling kit with 33 and 35's.

Yes its a 4x4, the sticker said something about upgraded rear to 11.5 and "anti spin differential". You can see the window sticker and photo of the truck here :

In the photos it looks super clean....however today he was a no show, didnt pick up the phone or call me back....so I dont know if he was busy, it sold already, or it is some sort of scam....I couldnt find another truck in that price range in DC that is that nice, prices are sky high around here. I left him a message and email, hoping he returns it and I can check it out later this week. Was already daydreaming about a little lift and mudders, and learning more about the engine upgrades!

Thanks for all the help guys. If anyone knows a sweet deal on a good truck somewhere on the East Coast near PA, MD, VA, WV please let me know!

Welcome to DTR!

Dang, that thing would make an awesome sleeper...

I would do a VIN check, Carfax or something...that's a pretty good deal if it's got a clear title...

I can't see it being for sale very long at that price.

Good Luck.
