Going from 2nd gen to 3rd gen power

Swapping from my 02 to this 07 has been pleasant. My question is does the old 24 valve seem like it has more low end power than the common rails? Pulling the camper my STOCK 02 seemed to have more low end grunt. This new truck feels like it just doesnt have it. Upper end power is better though. I will get a smarty when I turn 10,000 miles and I know it will fix it, just trying to see if others noticed the same thing.

I dont have an 07, but I do have an 05 and I have the same problem, It feels like the truck has no power when it comes to the hard work of getting up some of these hills in nc.One thing for sure is that it will out pull anything at the lower rpms than the other guys!

I went from 97 to 03 and noticed the same thing. It pulls hills fine but low end was weak. With the Predator it's better than the 97. Craig

my 04 with 4:10's would RIP off the line (FIPK, BD - Perf, Straight pipe)

my 06 3:73 (bone stock) doesn't leave a stoplight as hard, but seems to run harder once the RPMs are up.

i've only pulled 7k on flat land with the 06, it did ok, but still did not leave a stop light like i was used to

??

I'm pretty sure the newer trucks don't fuel very hard at lower rpm's for smoke and smog resons, my 04.5 definently fuels harder from idle to 1800rpm's, much more torque...and visible smoke in the mirrors. My new 06 is a little light in the lower rpms, no visible smoke until the turbo lights off around 2100rpms then only light smoke...

I believe that these newer trucks have torque management programs which make them easier to drive. I have been in a few trucks with programmers and they have MUCH more low end power (and smoke) to the point where the peddle is very touchy and almost scarry to drive on wet roads from what I have heard.

I'm wondering if it is an 04.5 & later thing. My 03 seemed to have more off the line power than an 01 HO I test drove (both 6 speeds). Maybe it is emissions related with the Cat and all.

I also believe that ctd 600's come from the factory with retarded (like me!!!) timing to lower chamber pressures and therefor chamber temps producing less NoX....maybe that's why the tone ring mod. and rockwell sensor are so effective??? This is just speculation on my part, and as I stated above I "came from the factory retarded".

I went from an 02 HO 6pd to an 06 6spd and noticed the same as you. Both trucks had fueling boxes, but the O2 seemed to pull harder in the lower rpms.

Talking

What about gearing. Most older trucks ran 4.10`s.
The new trucks all come stock with 3.73`s
I have a TST box on mine and when you leave the light`s it will go sideways if you push the pedal. I had a young kid with a Chevy 2WD 5.3-L thinking my truck was a slow P.O.S. When the light changed, needless to say.... He got spanked hard right off the line and all the way up to 4th before I lifted.... He would not even pull up next to me after that little smack down.
