OK I've got hte 03 3500 SRW QB SB with the Cali engine. I can't complain about milage. I get 12 around town, not getting up to 45 with lots of stop lights. I get around 18-24 on the highway if I keep it down to about 1900 RPM's (62-68mph). I get about 12 on the highway jpulling my 12K 5VR so all of you that complian about mpg's need to stop giving false data. You can't tell actuall mpg's with just one tank of fuel. You need to run thru several tanks of fuel t tell true mpg

600

well I have had my 600 a month now and 2500 miles , started out at 14 mpg and now up to 17 mpg with 50\50 city and highway driving , the power is awesome , I drive a lot of customer trucks being I work for Cummins, and I really enjoy this 600, someday soon I will put it on our dyno , but we only record horsepower with our dyno , I don't have the vibration I have been reading on the other areas and is very happy with the mileage I have been getting, I am not hard on the throttle but not easy either. don't give up on the 600 , you get better valve's and valve seat , you also get the same style piston cooling nozzles that we use on the bigger motors. not the crank saddle plastic nozzle we use on the other 5.9 , after talking to factory reps. get one now , next years may have the EGR back on the engine, I for one dont want a EGR motor .

I sold my '02 Powerstroke F-250 4X4 that I bought brand new to get a 3500 Quad 4X4 Dually...There is NO comparison between these two trucks...The Dodge is by far much quieter, and not just the engine. The Dually Dodge rides better, steers a 100 percent better and the brakes are like night and day. Yeah, I'm getting 12mpg on winter blend here in Maine. So what?? There was NO WAY I was going to roll the dice on a new 6.0 PSD...Getting stuck on the side of the road after spending 40 large is not fun
I couldn't have said it better.

That's a lot of my driving, too.

what do you think should i go for the 2004
Your decision. If you're being that wishy-washy, then maybe you should. I always go for newer technology, myself. No flame, but if everyone thought like you, we'd all still be driving horse and buggies.

Actually, she drives and handles so fantastic.... I'd buy Dodge again even if I knew 12 was all the 600 would ever do!!!!
So would I. I just picked mine up yesterday after waiting over 12 weeks and IT IS AWESOME!! The engine is fantastic (I can't really comment on mileage though since it only has 350 miles on it, but the overhead said 15.4), the 6-speed is incredible (SO much more fun to drive than an auto, no flame intended to those with autos), and the rest of the truck is fantastic. Of course, it's brand new so it should be. Brakes, ride, and handling are far superior than my 2001 Ford that I had. It's extremely quiet, even in crosswinds (the '04 Toyota Camry rental that I drove to the dealership was louder in the crosswind than this truck) and I love the interior. I wouldn't get cold feet but I also wouldn't mind getting a 305/555. Both of them are great engines and you'll love either one.

Ain't it the truth! I came out of a 2001 PSD also. Only thing I miss is the 6er - not in heavy traffic, though. Although, so far, I am liking this 48RE. Much easier to back up in tight spaces (although the longer bed isn't - see my "ding" post. )

I just picked up my new CA 600 from OR Saturday and drove it 1000 miles back to SoCal. This is my first diesel so I can only compare it to gassers but that engine kicks A$$. Through the mountain passes it would just grunt and go from 75 to 90 in a heartbeat on a 6% grade. It's going to be very hard to drive economically for a while. Tight steering and the brakes are scary powerful. I'm happy.
