i JUST fuelled up an hour ago
I`m with you hoss, for some reason i cant stop till its pouring out the tank :- I have that uneasy fealing if its no to the top.because of that, i CANT go to full service stations.
I`d say 3.5 to 5 gallons till its full, after the click.
i wish they could figure a way to make it less foamy ??? Usually while i`m filling i see 3 cars pull up, gas up, and leave on the other side of the pump.
There's still a such thing as a full service station?? Man...I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid.
I wish there was a way to speed the process up too. I always feel like the lady inside is just sitting there shaking her head at me as I slowly top off one penny at a time. :
I've read these threads here (and at the Diesel Stop) with interest. I've filled my truck up 53 times, I've never been able to squeeze more than a gallon in after it clicks off. And the needle always pegs itself on full.
I checked the last time I filled up and after the first click I got just over 5 gallons in before it was filled up to the top of the neck (practically dripping out). Needle is pegged against the little needle stop.

I just did it the last few times so I could get a 100% accurate mpg reading. The computer was off by a bit. First time I did it, the computer said 15.2mpg and the calculator said 15.8. Second time it said 16.1mpg, and the calculator said 16.7. Who knows. I may try one more time just to see what this current tank yields
You definitely do feel like a moron topping it off for 10 minutes =] I need a 70 gal transferflow! ;D

Stopping for fuel every 600 miles or so isn't all that much less convenient than stopping every 700, which is what I might get by cramming every available drop on board.

Empty isn't a big deal, but when towing it makes a big difference if you can go that extra 50 or 60 miles. Of course, I'm not sure that the extra 5 or 10 minutes to fill up saves enough time in the long run to make it worth it.

Can I use the truck stop pumps. I have used them in the past and had no problems. Also, the foaming is greatly reduced. The pumps slow way down right at the end and it is a perfect flow rate to beat the foaming.
I read on another post that this would damage the sending unit.
I am aware of the issues related to hindering truckers, but the pumps where I have been going are never full and I go during off-hours.

Re:Fuel tank fill-up ?
Are you guys filling up with at the pump on high speed? I just came back from filling up and I had it on the first click on the nozzle the whole time. She clicked off just a few more clicks to get the numbers even and that was it, she was pegged all the way past the F. It could be that you are filling at a higher speed and causing it to foam early on? I may be wrong here just guessing.
Re:Fuel tank fill-up ?
I FOUGHT THE FOAM AND THE FOAM WON!!!!!!
I filled up today and after about 5 minutes I squeezed 3 1/2 gallons extra in before I gave up, she still had more room. It would be nice to get an extra 4-5 gallons in for me that would be 1 or 2 less fill ups a month. But if it takes as long as it does to get it in there it doesn't really save me much time.

Re:Fuel tank fill-up ?
I finally gave up on seeing how much fuel I can put in the tank. Tired of dribbling diesel on the side of the truck.
Now I add just one gallon more after the pump clicks off.

Re:Fuel tank fill-up ?
Never put diesel in anything that it didn't foam up....it's the nature of the beast...........PS Buy some throw away rubber gloves and stick under your back seat....some of those nozzels are real nasty....also be careful where you walk or your new truck will not smell so good anymore.
Re:Fuel tank fill-up ?
In this case, it's not the nature of the beast. Sure diesel foams up, however our design causes excessive foaming for some reason. My last two diesels you fill till it clicks, a little more and you see foam, a tiny bit more and your fuel level is right there in the neck. Ours to get the fuel level in the NECK(visible fuel level in the neck after foam dies) it takes forever to fill and wait for the foam, repeat , repeat...... I have a feeling it's something to do with the breather hose or angle of the neck, but wish someone would come up with a fix!
Re:Fuel tank fill-up ?
I stood there for 10 minutes this morning pumping very slowly because I too like to make sure the tank is completely full. If you are checking fuel mileage than this is a must because different pumps pump at different rates. They will click off at different times so you may think you are full and calculate your mileage and it looks great when in fact the pump clicked off 2 gallons quicker than the last pump did.
Am I making any sense??
