Since my last post on this thread I had a TSB on my truck. They reflashed my computer and my fuel gauge is now correct. It actually shows my usage, for example on a road trip of 200 miles I saw the needle move as I was making progress. Also when I fill it up, the gauge responsed the way it should, it pops up to the fill mark. In my case the TSB helped, maybe others are seeing the same thing I saw. Just something to check out.

Fuel Consumption

My fuel gage and over head computer do not match at all. Nor do they corolate with the amount of fuel in the tank. The over head computer's average MPGs is usually right on target but when it says that I only have 50 miles left on the tank I only put in 25 gallons. My question is where are the other 9 gallons? At 17mpg *9 gal I should get another 153 miles. The gas gage is reading 1/8 at this point. I would really like to get a more accurate reading from this setup. Does any one have any sugestions on how to fix this?

instead of looking at the fuel gauge, look at the odometer... ie: i know i average 700+ miles to a tank, thats 10 hours strait @ 70 mph.... kinda easy to figure out when to fuel up that way...
theres times where ill have 200 miles on her before the gauge starts to move, then ill have 400 on her by about half tank, then drops like a rock and the last quarter hardley moves..

I have owned my pickup for three years. Fuel guage has never worked right. So used to the using the odometer now, last week I jumped in another fellas' truck, reset his odo, and drove off.

I don't even hear the dinger anymore, but I know it works. Everyone says "what's that"?

Do wish I'd go 700 miles to the tank though, I use 400 for my magic number on everday driving.

The problem was in the fuel tank sending unit and the guage has worked perfectly since it was replaced
