Alright I must be going crazy cause i even checked and im sure it doesnt stay put. Today when i got home i shut the truck off and I had only used 1/8 of a tankk of fuel ( the mark between 3/4 and full) hop in tonight to go get a pizza and its down to 3/4 tank. Im likek hum. So now to help my memory i took a pic wiht the phone and ill find out tomorrow. Wonder why it does this, , if it does do it

Fuel gages are NEVER linear. Full to 3/4 may be 100 miles but 3/4 to 1/2 may be 150miles. Make, model, year, doesn't matter. Just my experience anyway.

Mine is doing the same thing. I especially noticed it on a trip to Michigan, When stopping for a rest I would notice the fuel gauge was near the 3/4 mark. Then when starting the truck to leave the rest area, my fuel would not be even near the spot I thought it would be. It made it hard to really travel because I was unsure of the fuel I had used. I had asked a question in the past and the response I got was that there is a TSB for the fuel gauge sending unit. I looked but was unable to find anything, but I still plan on going to the dealer.

Fuel expands when it is hot and contracts when it is cold. This may or may not be what you are experiencing.

Are you on level ground. My driveway is on a slant so if I back in I get one reading in the morning if I pull straight in I get another...Just a thought...

yeah, it does it everywhere. not just the driveway at home.

Fuel does expand and contract , but not enough for a guage likek we have to notice , let alone 1/8 or more of a tank worth

The gauge on my truck takes a little longer to return to the full mark when I fill it up. It used to pop right up, but now it has a slow surge type motion to it. It is definitely nothing to do with the temperature. At least in my case.

Temperature, and grade(slope), does affect reading. It is also time/level dampened to prevent indication moving up and down due to fuel slop in the tank.

From starting cold and running a given amount of time the fuel in the tank will warm up due to return.

Overall I think the gauge works pretty well except at the low end of the scale. I think I have more than 8% remaining when on E based on fillup's to the neck.

My truck the other day read below empty on the gauge. My wife had been driving it and I thought she had run it low as she will often do. However after stopping to buy fuel it only took about a quarter tank. It has fluctuated like this before but not this bad. It may be worse due to a current cold snap in our weather. If anyone has ideas on a fix for this problem I would appreciate hearing them.

It has been my experience gas or diesel that a cold start in the morning will always show less fuel than you had the night before.

Was it heated fuel? Tired and not wanting to stop on the way home? I dunno?

I've noticed the same thing, and also noticed that as the truck warms, the fuel gage reads higher ............ check it out!

Doesn't matter, the fuel is going through 2 pumps and the extra returned to the tank.

and it would matter. Because when i came back the next day i had less than when i left it

Which would make sence in the gets cold senerio but not 1/8th tank. Anyway For the most part it doesnt matter. I attributed it to time relaps. Where it more less took electronic snapshots of the fuel level and showed it to ya. but if ther that far apart thats also sad
