Fuel Filter changing

Hi,
I was wandering how to change the fuel filter on an 06 dodge 2500 ctd. My father and I are new to diesels and still in the learning process. His truck is just now hitting 15,000 miles so I thought it was about time to change it. Also is there a certain fuel filter recommended?
Thanks for any advice

Genos garage makes a 7 Micron premium filter. About 15.00. CHanging the filter is not too difficult:

Drain canister by sliding the YELLOW lever over to the left. When fuel stops, put the lever back where it was!

Open the top of the canister and pull the lid/filter out as one unit.

Look in the canister for large particles and dirt. Wipe with LINT FREE cloth if necessary.

Remove old filter fom lid and remove rubber o-ring

Place new filter on and new o-ring

Slide the filter back down into canister and HAND TIGHTEN... DO not over do it!!

Turn key on and BUMP starter until pump quits. Turn key off and back on again and bumb starter again.. Repeat 3X

Fire it up!

Dont forget to lube the new o-ring with some clean diesel or motor oil to make sure it seals right and doesn't stick the next time you pull it off.

For my 06, I had to go out and buy a 1 1/8 socket. You will also find that a 6 point socket works better for this application.

I changed my filter for the first time last week. The instructions provided here were very helpful. I do have a couple of quick questions. Does anyone know the size of the drain hose. I want to extend mine as suggested in the instructions. Also, I noticed that my canister did not drain completely. Is that normal. Thanks.

I forget the hose size and I am not by my truck to measure but as far as the fuel not draining completely, that is normal. Just use a good lint free rag to soak up the small amout that remains in there. I use a long pair of needle nose pliers to hold the rag to get it all the way down and nice and clean.

You can use about two feet of 3/4 ID hose to slip over the drains hose.
