front leveling kit
front leveling kit
Can someone tell me what a front leveling kit for a 1 ton dually 4x4 consists of? Does this actually lower the far rear or does it pick the front end up to the same hieght as the rear? Is this a do it yourself job? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to figure out if this type of 4x4 will work on a 5er I'm about to order. My concern is enough bedrail clearence. Oh, what about cost for this kit.
Thanks

It's generally a 2" spacer that fits in between the front springs and top spring pockets. It does not lower the rear at all. It is a very easy install, one thing to mention. When installing, disconnect the sway bar ends prior to putting in spacer. Makes it alot easier. Skyjacker offers a replacement spring that is 2-2.5 inches taller and much more stout than stock. I've put spacer leveling kits on the last 2 trucks, I plan on the Skyjackers for this one. One other note if your pulling a 5er... by lifting the front and putting weight on the pin (5er) your rear will then be squating down further than the front, not a big deal except for the headlights will be shooting up when pulling a load. These lifts are between 125-200 depending on model.
What are you trying to do? You might want to take out the rear leaf spring block, which will lower your rear end down...if your worried that your 5er wont clear the rails. Hopes this helps

the levelling kit is exactly that, it levels out the front of the rig with the back, which is taller. all they do is put a spacer on top of the front coil springs. the spacers them selves should only cost about $100. i paid $150 and had them put in, i could have done it myself but i felt that was a pretty fair price to have it done. as far as i know there are 2 companies that make the spacers, revtek and rough country. hope this helps
Usually they are about a 2" spacer that goes on top of your coils. Some are made of polymer(plastic) and some of steel. Lots of places carry them, mostly shops that specialize in off-roading. Price on most is between $150-180. I haven't put them on yet, so I don't know how complex the job is. If you put on a leveling kit and pull a heavy 5ver your rear end will sag a little lower than the front, so be aware of that. Thats the reason the front is lower than the rear from the factory, so with a load the rig will sit level. -Steve
Edited to say: Holy cow, I must type slow, cause in the time I took to type this, 2 other folks responded and answered your questions! Good luck!

It is a pretty simple project. I have installed 4 sets of TUFF COUNTRY 3 of them have been on 2nd gen's and 1 on a 3rd gen. One thing that you will want to have besides your basic hand tools, jacks, and jack stands is a coil spring compressor. If you dont have one you can usually get one at your local rental yard or some of the auto parts stores will let you barrow theirs. Good luck. If you need any help let us know.
