Front end Vibration

So i had dreaded death wobble going on. Figured I needed new tires anyway so i would start there. Changed the tires and have been driving them for a week now with no death wobble...YAY... Now between about 50 and 60mph under steady throttle it shakes slightly. Not violently at all, just enough to be annoying. Start to accelerate and it goes away. Could it just be an alignment problem, or more? I dont want to get the alignment only to have to do it again after another part gets replaced. Any ideas?

A shake isn't generally an alignment problem. If it changes on acceleration, I usually look to the drivetrain first. Where do you feel it- in the seat, or the steering wheel, or elsewhere? Is there a chance you have a u-joint starting to fail? Have a good look at all of them- front axle, and both driveshafts.

For safety, double check your wheel nuts, make sure none have come loose.

Ill check the u-joints. They didnt look bad when i picked up the truck, but worth a look.

I failed to mention that if i hold the speed long enough, the vibration will go away. I can feel it in the steering wheel, not the seat. And i can see it in the stickers on the top of the windshield.

I will check the lugs also, I watched them torque them so i know it was done, but your right, safety first. Im just wondering if i should have them rebalanced. I dont know. I am at a loss here. I dont really want to be sinking alot of money into it right now, but it needs to be fixed.

aborgardt:

I don't know if you have read this thread on DTR or not, but here is a link for you on a LONG discussion on the DW and front end problems with our trucks:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=220996

I thought that might help you out some.

If you don't find anything else, maybe rotate the tires front to rear to see if it changes. Still thinking that you'll find a bad u-joint somewhere.
