Front Brakes
Front Brakes
I fuel milage dropped from 20.8 down to about 15 mpg and so I broght it to the dealer to get checked out. They put it on the computer and found nothing wrong.
Last weekend I went to get the tires balanced and rotated and was told that the front tires would not turn freely like they should, so back to the dealer.
Both front brakes calipers were dragging and need replaceing. The kicker is that the brake rotors also need replaceing and that would not be covered under warranty!!!!
Does that sound right? A warranty part failed and messed up my nonwarrany part and I have to fix it!!! Not happy over this at all!!!!!!
By the way I have 35200 miles on the truck.

Go to a different dealer , problem is , that most are the same , it seems rare to find a good one .
If you can not get one to warranty it all , then you need to find a good independent shop , tell them upfront , that you need to get detailed cause / description & save parts , then ask if they are willing to testify in court .
But until the facts are known , also be prepared to pay for all , with out the facts there may be something on your end [ under what conditions did this happen ? ] , if that is the case , you should be paying less at the independent shop .
But you also will have to pay them for all work , if it is decided in your favor [ in court ] , that's when you get reimbursed .

My dad had a Dodge Caravan that had the electric fan motor fail - which blew the fusible link when the shorted motor drew too much current. Dodge replaced the fan motor (about $90) on the warranty - and charged him over $100 to replace the fusible link - they said it didn't fail, that it worked and did it's job. Warranty hassles seem like part of the Dodge experience - but perhaps it's no different if you had a Ford or Chev, etc.
Brake rotor problems are always a question because they are considered a wear item. You're at the mercy of your dealer, may not be worth the hassle of going to court since new rotors may end up costing you less than the time lost to go to court, etc. Maybe that's what the dealers count on.

New non oem rotors are not that expensive, and certainly not worth going to court over. Maybe you could talk your dealer into installing the rotors you provide... Then go to Napa and get them for a whole lot cheaper than OEM.
