Front brake upgrades?

I figure while I'm replacing the front bearings I might as well do the front brakes. There seems to be a lot of options for brakes from mild to wild. I don't tow heavy or race, just want good brakes for the daily commute. I'm thinking just have the rotors turned and upgrade to a better pad. Any thoughts on upgrades appreciated. Too many choices out there.

If I have to replace the rotors any comments on drilled/slotted/smooth?

After reading a dozen posts I think I'll just use the napa factory replacement rotors and their severe service pads.

I replaced all mine with Autozone premium stuff. It works really well, inexpensive, and carries a lifetime warrenty.
