Fogzilla/lumen question

Well guys, I recently replaced my headlight bulbs with some Sylvania Silverstar Ultras and although the increase in light is good I guess I was expecting more. The obvious next step is to upgrade the fogs, I am contemplating buying the Fogzilla which allows use of a 9005 bulb instead of the 9006 and increases lumens from 1000 to 1700. Has anyone spent the $20 on the fogzilla and if so do you think it was money well spent?

I would also get the Ultras for the fogs as it seems that they are about the best bulb going right now.

Thanks for the inputs!

I have the mod and it does make a difference.

Can save $20 and DIY with some trimming on the 9005 housing and using a #114 o-ring instead of the stock o-ring. Do a search for 'fogzilla' in the 3rd gen forum.

I have them too and it makes a big difference. I didn't even bother messing with the headlights after doing this mod.....

I have the fogzilla wiring harness and the 9005 silver star bulbs. I love the additional light.
The one negative is that the fog light bulbs will burn out if used all of the time at night. Good for short stints, but a 3-4 hour road trip will shorten the life considerably. Several and they go poof. I have replaced 8-10 sets due to my night travels to Alabama and back. Mfg. stated that they are not designed for long trip use.
Also, save your self some grief, use silicone to seal the bulbs in the socket, one drop of moisture and poof.

Yeah, the Silver Stars have a very short lifespan. I recommend going with just regular long life 9005's or the new Philips Xtreme +80.

Thanks guys, guess I should have used the search feature. Not the greatest reports on the Silverstars, maybe I should have saved my money and not picked up the Ultra's.

Or you could spend $41.50 and get an 4300k HID fog light kit. Plug and play no mods and get a warranty.

I did the mod, cheap easy and a lot more light. I used standard bulbs as I am too cheap for the silver star stuff.

The main reason I went with the Silverstar Ultras was the lighting of course, but I found them on Flea bay for $25 delivered. I ordered the 9006's, but then decided it made more sense to replace the heads first, so I went to the local auto store and straight swapped the 9006's for 9007's, I now have a receipt and can exchange if they dont last 12 months.

I went through too many Silverstars myself when I had my 03. This time I just got the plain old Long Life bulbs for my Fogzilla and hopefully they will live up to their name....

Wow! That's the cheapest I've seen. Wonder what the quality is like?

Sea:/>Drive has had them for several years

I am going to get them for my fogs here soon and will report. I already have HID heads. For how short the Silverstars were lasting me anything longer than 10 months or so will be spectacular. I have had my HID heads for that long and couldnt be happier.

Thanks for the info. I might spring for the high/low Bi-Xenon HID's from them if the price is right.

I sortof did the fogzilla mod accidentally. I hit a deer and the only damage was knocking out the drivers side fog light bulb. My brother has a CRX and noticed that my foglight bulbs (9006) were the same as his headlight bulbs (9006). He already had a set of the 9005 Silverstars filed down for his CRX so he gave them to me.

He told me the 9005 mod for the CRX (and others) guys had been around forever. He has some other 9005 bulb in his CRX now, either way it makes a huge difference in any vehicle.
