Flash

I know this is a rookie question, but what happens when you flash your truck? I have seen several places on here where you are discussing flashes and I have no idea. How long does it take, how much does it cost? What does it change?

Try to make it easy. Dealer usually does the flashes. If vehicle is under warranty no charge, if out of warranty depends on the dealer. Flashes usually deal with a problem and create a solution for it. Poor mileage, may change timing. That is an easy one but you should get the idea. The manufacturer discovers a problem, then develops a change in the software to deal with the problem and when you bring in your vehicle for that problem the re-flash might be the way to correct your problem. There are other things they do so it is many different things that a flsh does. On the newer 6.8's then have changed the paramaters for when the DPF re-generates by altering the paramaters in the flash. Hope this makes sense.
